There aren’t a lot of Hawaiian style bbq places anymore. But Laki has the charm of a classic one off diner with the same tastes of a trend that has been replaced by acai and poke bowls. Decent food. Good service even if the neighborhood is a little rough. It’s good to have a place still making a decent bbq combo.

Total honest review about LOCO MOCO: The important parts of this plate are the gravy and beef. I didn’t like the taste of both. Zero seasoning. Bland. Bad execution. The egg was terrible. The yolk was cooked solid. It was about 15% over easy. I believe the egg is cooked with one of those weird plug in egg cookers. I ate all of it because I do not like wasting food. Not worth the $18. This is a staple dish of the restaurant’s theme. See photos for reference.

Good food, great portions but even better service. Ordered the BBQ combo with comes with chicken, beef and a kalbi rib. Portions were great for beef and the rib, but chicken was ridiculous. They give you two huge portions. I would have been fine with just one, but surprised to find another piece hiding underneath. Meat is tender and juicy. Not overdone or dry like some other places. It also comes with two scoops of rice and a scoop of Mac salad. The only comment about the food was the teriyaki sauce is different than I’m used to. Not bad, just different. Hard to put a finger on it, but it is thicker and almost has a Chinese flavor profile over Hawaiian, but again not a bad thing. I called ahead the order was ready when I arrived which is always nice, but when they saw me taking pictures of the menu for posting online, she offered me a free milk tea and said “she trusted I would post or check in later and wanted me to have a free drink”. Why not 5 stars? I have to be honest and say I have had better Hawaiian plates around LA (and Hawaii) but Laki is a clear winner in this neighborhood.

I decided to try this local place but I was disappointed.
We ordered and probably waited 20-25 minutes for our food. My coconut drink was amazing, but the food was very simple yet flavorful.
The owner had a relative there with some kids which it kind of threw you off as they were loud and they kept going in and out of the kitchen.

As a combat veteran, I highly recommend. Great food. Great portions. Above that, the owner will go above and beyond for you. On 6/9/2024 I lost my phone but didn’t realize until I got home. I called the location and he immediately looked at his cameras to see if he could locate. To my amaze a homeless person put my phone into their backpack and the owner was able to retrieve for me. When I arrived, the owner handed me my phone. I am grateful and extremely THANKFUL.

Foods alright, definitely not worth the $18-20 that’s on the menu. Better off going to an actual restaurant. Would recommend if it was going off their old prices of their menu shown in other photo reviews. I was expecting ~$12 since a menu review had it priced as such a year ago, now it’s $18.

I once rated this five stars, but i am very sad to say once they switched owners the great food that was so flavourful and wholesome is now gone. The other owners were so friendly and inviting as well always giving big portions and extra food. These owners welcome you and give you constant bones in your food along with an overpowering taste of terrible flavours.

Ordered the Hawaiian Stir Fried Noodles – YUM! And like the other reviews, they give you a lot. Could hardly wait to get home to try it; smelled so good, and tasted even better. The leftovers the day after were quite tasty. I want to try everything else on the menu!!
