Lacoy’s food truck in Wahiawa serves great food – Facebook

Thank you for the post. People here in the states don’t believe the food we ate off food trucks in Hawaii. Boy I miss the grinds!

We stopped here on a whim while traveling the island on a self-guided driving tour, and I’m so glad we did. They had me at the garlic shrimp sign—but honestly, everything we tried was outstanding.
The owners were incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely happy to have us there. We ordered the burger, Parmesan fries, fried chicken with the chef’s homemade BBQ sauce, and the garlic shrimp, and every single dish was fantastic.
Amazing food, great people, and the kind of place you’re lucky to stumble upon while exploring. Highly recommend stopping if you’re anywhere nearby.

I stopped by this truck on a Wednesday because I’d been wanting to try it out since I’d seen their signs out in the grass, and it seemed like it would be good.

I saw that they had a Wednesday Special going on, which gives you a bunch of food for the price. I inquired with the woman working the window, asking which food is their specialty. I expected to hear that their specialty was their shrimp due to their “Garlic Shrimp” signs, but to my surprise, she said it was actually their catfish.

I preferred the catfish-version of the Wednesday Special for $17. The woman’s husband who was cooking had overheard me talking about the shrimp, and he gave me two friend shrimp and his homemade barbecue sauce to try for free! As I was leaving at, he kindly gave me a smoked chicken leg too. All the food was delicious. The husband-and-wife duo were very kind and had really positive energy.

Ultimately, this was good food for a good price from a good small business run by a kind couple. It’s worth trying, if you ask me.

P.S. When I had met with my coworkers at the Schofield Main Exchange to eat with them and heard that one of them had actually paid more for their food from Burger King, I knew that I had made the right choice!

If I could give it more than 5 stars I would, the food is fantastic, I always recommend it to buddies. Very nice couple running it and great customer service, the man always gives me a free sample or two and it never disappoints, 10/10 across the board.

Absolutely amazing food! I finally found the Deep Southern cooking I have so long fully searched for here on island. I have had catfish all over the south and his still took the crown for best I’ve had in at least 10 years. Paired with a fresh coleslaw and garlic aioli his po boy is a for sure must buy.

For the true BBQ connoisseurs out there, it hits your pallet with a smooth sweetness and after your first breath turns into a nice slight kick of heat making for the perfect balance.

Highly recommend to all to go and try it!

My favorite food truck on the island, I tell everyone I can to come here.

The owners are super friendly and the food is absolutely outstanding. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

But the catfish is definitely one of the best items

I have noticed this truck Everytime I go to the beach and I said I was going to, well today I did and I am so grateful and blessed I did! The couple were so nice! I ordered the Garlic shrimp the pastele lumpias and deep fried Oreos. Man I was not disappointed! While I waited the husband handed me samples of the catfish, deep fried fish and smoked chicken. Let’s break it down.

The smoked chicken was juicy and tender by itself. With the homemade BBQ sauce, ugh(in a good way) it reminded me of my grandma’s cooking! I even teared up! That BBQ sauce was go good! Could have been similar to Grandma’s! I liked how it was tangy at first and then it’s like a small yet strong kick that says BAM! I’m here with some heat! It definitely has me licking my fingers.
Lacoy’s Deep fried shrimp has me taken back for a minute. I expected like normal fried shrimp however, there was a simple sweetness to it that elevated it a little more.

The Pastele Lumpias, ok now these had me really searching! I was surprised how well the flavor blended together to where I was unable to tell the different spices yet even the meat didn’t taste like the meat! To me it was a paste yet a very well seasoned, like, “come dance with me and see if you can tell what I am!” Kinda vibe. I enjoyed them. The wrap around them wasn’t too much either! I do wonder if using some creme fres might elevate the flavor profile.(IMO)

Deep fried catfish, boy howdy that was nice and melt in your mouth tender! Really liked it with the homemade BBQ on the side.

Deep fried shrimp was good. With the cornmeal batter and homemade BBQ was very interesting yet good. The batter didn’t overpower the shrimp.

Garlic Shrimp was OMG for me. I’m a garlic girly the more garlic the better! The portion was definitely not what I expected yet well worth the money. This one had me surprised for sure. I was expected that kick of garlic, yet it was the butter sauce that had me going! The rice was nice and fluffy. Man that butter though! Nice subtle hint of garlic and the you get the garlic in the butter! Mixing the butter sauce with the rice had me going Ok! I see you! It gave a nice creamy texture to the rice (IMO). The shrimp has the shells on which I’m not used to eating them that way, yet I did today and that’s where the flavor is. Trapped under the shell! So definitely amazing with shell on!

Corn as the side was good nice kick of pepper to it!

Deep fried Oreos were so good! I haven’t in my life had them deep fried. I was expecting there to be more batter then Oreo yet they had the right amount (IMO). They were sprinkled with powdered sugar.

The best part for me? Was knowing they are apart of a program that helps feed the homeless. To me that’s what shows they have heart. Plus you can taste it in the food! Will I be back? You betcha!!!
Go try them out! You won’t regret if if you looking for soul food!

Let me tell yall about these beautiful souls. Met them about a year ago driving into Wahiawa for ohana time. Plan and simple, the food SLAPS, broke da mout, fire, onolicous, all of thee above. Food was so good, we came back the next day to order catering from the truck for another ohana dinner party. Pastele Lumpia (A+++), Fish, Shrimp, Turkey leg, the BBQ Sauce… all just phenom!!! Also they have a program where you can donate a little extra if you like, to feed others less fortunate (Kokua Aku, Kokua mai). I wishing for this island boriqua and brotha nothing but more success and hopefully one day a brick and mortar bc they deserve it! Cant wait to return back to the A’ina to see them again. Aloha ya’ll!!!
