An amazing gem in Cedar Mill. Like a fancy downtown Portland bistro. The atmosphere is cool and romantic. It’s a great place to drink wine and eat several delicious empanadas. Our family and young kids enjoyed it a ton too!

I took one bite of the empanadas from this place and my mind immediately rewinded back to my childhood in South America. Everyone in South America knows Argentina has the best empanadas, even if you don’t live in Argentina. Around the southern continent you’ll find Argentinian Empanada places sprinkled across all the countries, run by ex-pat Argentinians with pride; they are simply the best. I have lived in many cities across the US, not in New York, but visited there once and found a real Argentinian empanada place there. That was the only place I knew had them, until today. There is no doubt this place is a gem in terms of food and service. If you’ve never had Argentinian empanadas with a little wine, then you don’t know what you’re missing. This place has them and they are as authentic as they can get this far north in the world. The chorizo and chicken empanadas are my favorites. But all of them are well stuffed with delicious fillings guaranteed to delight.

The owner was very gracious and friendly and brought both of us a free wine taste because the reservation program allowed us to sign up for a reservation 1/2 hour before the restaurant opened. It wasn’t necessary, but appreciated!

Great empanadas, great wine. Fun space, especially could even host my bookclub upstairs.

Almost never drink wine. We had their wine flight and each one was very different. Their empanadas were very good but their star was their french fries which were waffle fries which were soft with a light batter and seasoned. I think they were cooked in tallow. They addictive.

Me, my wife and another couple of friends went to LaChona a few weeks ago and we still regret it. I’ll say, the wine was good.

So I’m originally from Argentina and was yearning for some food that reminded me of my old home. We tried and failed to replicate empanadas at home so my partner and I figured we’d try these. We ordered 8~ empanadas and four alfajores de maicena. The meal was $96 which is staggeringly ridiculous; you can get a dozen empanadas for 1/5th of the price in Argentina. This is essentially glorified peasant food, mind you. So they’re pretty unapologetically price gouging because they know they’ve cornered a niche market. Fair enough, I though. The kicker is the empanadas aren’t even good (as someone who grew up eating the real thing), very mediocre. Admittedly the alfajores were excellent.

Loved opening night at LaChona! Photos don’t do the deliciousness justice. We’re looking forward to returning soon.

Really tasty Empanadas…the chicken has always been my favorite since LaChona had its food cart in Beaverton. They are fast oven cooked on premise, served beautifully and they are currently offering a taste of any wine!
