This is a French restaurant owned and operated by Vietnamese staff. Came here for dinner on a Sunday night. Made reservations but the restaurant was not that busy tonight. The escargot is a must order here. They typically have daily specials that are not on the menu. I had the New York steak special. Steak was cooked perfectly with a nice peppercorn sauce. All entrées come with turnip soup and a small salad. Also tea or coffee served after meal. The service could have been better as we had to ask for water and servers were on their cell phones too much. Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious.

The atmosphere is VERY PRETTY AND VERY PARIS. I LOVE that they had Eifel Tower decorations everywhere. I also love that even though it’s clearly Asian own, the menu was authentically French. They give you a 3 course meal with bread, soup, salad and dinner with your entree price. I loved that. The soup of the day was turnips, that was not good. The Caesar salad was delicious ( especially the dressing). My lamb chops were DELICIOUS AND SO WAS THE ASPARAGUS AND CARROT PUREE THAT CAME WITH IT. It also came with scalloped potatoes that were bland. But, I literally ate everything else and knew I wanted dessert so I was glad I didn’t like them. I ended up eating ALL OF THE CREME BRULEE ANYWAYS. MY FRIEND HAD THE FISH SPECIAL AND HATED THEM AND DIDN’T LIKE ANYTHING BUT THE VEGGIES. DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS. MY SAUCE FOR THE LAMB WAS THE BEST SAUCE I’D EVER HAD WITH LAMB CHOPS.

Food is excellent here. The French onion soup was not the best I’ve had but it was pretty authentic. It would have been better if they added a little bit more cheese. The escargot was excellent full of the butter herb flavors. The lobster tail was perfectly cooked too. My only complaint is don’t get hot water here. Their canteen or jar has a strong bleach smell to it. Get wine or bottled water instead.

Second time coming here. It was my mom’s birthday. I had made a reservation a week prior, but in the morning and someone picked up and noted my reservation. When I got to the restaurant, the staff asked if I had reservation, but could not find my name. After few minutes of trying to figure things out, we were finally seated. Glad they understood. The meals we ordered comes with a soup and salad. And bread and butter. Would say that it would be nice if the pieces of lettuce were smaller for the salad. Other than that food was tasty. I remember during my first dine in, I ordered a French onion soup and that was mega salty. Not sure about now since it’s been a few years and I didn’t order that this time. Food portion was alright. Got a flan for birthday special item. Was good.

I haven’t been this disappointed in a restaurant in a long time. I ordered the rabbit in wine and I didn’t taste any wine at all; the sauce that covered it was extremely salty and briny and reminded me of that gravy sauce I used to have for school lunch that no one ever finished and no amount of water could quench my thirst. The escargot was also very salty and it tasted like briny clams. Overall, just SALT SALT SALT.

La Vie has a special place of historic large family dinners Ive had through decades. And….The decor Still remains from where it was when I was in high school in the nineties…. Do not come here thinking it’s fancy, you may dress in jeans but you do need reservations To eat here!!!!

Sadly the portions shrunk, prices went up. You’re paying thirty something per dish, served with napkins from Costco. It used to be better because portions used to me more.

Came here when I visited LA for a week and a half back in 2020, it was just the start of the pandemic in early March so the restaurant was quite empty for a Sunday night. Excellent food for the price. Had the escargot, lamb, souffle and crème brulee and everything was outstanding ! Staff were very friendly and the quality of the food is better then some expensive 5 star french restaurant. Would definitely come again when I come back to LA!
