We had a date night dinner here and absolutely loved it. The restaurant is super pretty and trendy. The restaurant staff were great and friendly. We loved our waitress who gave such great recommendations.
What we ate…
Appetizers: we had the ahi tostadas and the chorizo queso fundido. We loved the queso fundido the best.
Dinner: Carne asada plate which was super tasty and delicious. I had the chicken enchiladas suizas and they were so good. I loved the beans too.
Dessert: churros, too die for!
We definitely will be back again and I want it try their brunch
They also have an agave club which sounds amazing. You get a bottle a month and it includes a social hour with other members which incudes drinks and appetizers. Sounds like such an amazing idea.

First time going to La Popular. We actually went by mistake. Our plan was to eat at Viva Madrid, which we didn’t realize was next door. When we entered, they asked if we had a reservation, which we didn’t, so they said we would have to be seated outside. As we were being seated, my husband found a place at the bar for us. We ordered the ceviche for appetizer. I had the short rib enchiladas and hubby had the ribeye taco plate. All had great flavors. Hubby had an Old Fashion made with tequila amd it was surprisingly good. The service was top notch. Jesse made a beautiful Jellyfish.

The good: the hostess and waiter were both extremely pleasant and welcoming. The decor is nice, the restaurant was clean and the food was pretty good! The chicken enchiladas were a bit small but very tasty.

The bad: it was a Sunday lunch and was impossibly loud inside. So hard to converse. And the service, while friendly, was also extremely slow. It’d also pretty expensive for the food you get—any Mexican restaurant that charges for chips and salsa is already on the hot seat in my book!

Parking around the restaurant is a bit challenging. Plan extra time for that.

La Popular in the Claremont Village delivers a contemporary and polished take on Mexico City dining, blending an upscale ambiance with a lively, social energy that fits both daytime brunches and vibrant nighttime outings. The restaurant offers a thoughtful range of vegetarian options, including dishes like guacamole made tableside, grilled vegetable tacos, esquites, mixed salads, and customizable plates where veggies can be substituted for protein without compromising flavor. For guests with dietary restrictions, the staff is well-versed in gluten-free and lactose-free accommodations, and many items such as corn-based tortillas, salsas, rice, and plant-based sides are naturally allergen-friendly spot that successfully balances style, comfort, and authentic culinary flair.

First time visiting La Popular Claremont, nice romantic atmosphere. The lighting was just right. The server was friendly and gave some great suggestions. The food was real good and the prices were resonable. I would make another visit.

What a wonderful little surprise in Claremont. This was very unexpected in the most pleasant way. Okay so this adventure starts off with me having a really long and emotional day visiting in California. So I decided I needed to find where the best margaritas were located in the I.E. at this little gem popped up. Turns out they have Happy hour after 9pm as well. So I gladly walked over to the bar and ordered a Margarita off of Happy Hour. Which is very tasty I must say but the star of the show is the Premium Margarita. It’s regular price but def worth every penny. I enjoyed it truly. Then said why not let’s have some food and emotionally eat. lol. No I was hungry but not as hungry for what I ordered. But I still ate it because it was amazing. I got the Short Rib Enchiladas which came with rice and beans. The rice was cooked perfectly. The beans were great too. Don’t be surprised by the way the beans look. They hit in the best possible, flavorful way. The enchiladas were great. Cheesy mixed with a great portion of beef. I was in heaven and left feeling much better than I came in. I was full with delicious food and great drinks. No complaints. Also bartenders were nice and to be honest I had some entertainment. The amount of dates at the bar was insane. So was def interesting. lol. The place is beautiful by the way. Go check them out.

Location: Good, Parking: Where you can find it, Service: Good, Presentation: Good, Time from Order to table: Good. Overall: First time try after passing a fee times. To see the change from the old Rhino records to this new Mexican cuisine was a pleasant change. We arrived just at opening, so the place was getting ready and had zero customers. I did enjoy the vibe of the place as well as the music, which I felt did not impede on our conversation. The chips and salsa were a bit different as it had their own unique taste, which was better than many I’ve been to. The servings of our requested meals looked balanced and had
enough flavor to not require extra salt or pepper. I will come back to try another dish at a busier time to see how the service adjusts to a busier environment. So, for now, I will rate this place with 4.2 stars as I did enjoy the meal and service during an early day.

Absolutely wonderful, nothing but great meals & service every time we go & dine!

For drinks – we recommend their agua frescas. My favorite is the Horchata but if you can’t decide on just 1, get the flight❕

For starters- we love the | Salsa Tray (fresh salsas made in house) | the Queso Fundido + Chorizo | & Ahi Tuna Tostadas ❕

For main dishes – we love the | Short Rib Enchiladas | the Quesabirria | & the Torta de Carnitas ❕

For Dessert – our go-to is the | Flan (order without ice cream if you don’t like your desserts Too Sweet) like us

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. It’s incredible to see how this location, which used to be Rhino Records, has been transformed into such an elegant and inviting space. The decor was beautiful, and the restaurant was clean and well-maintained.
Our waiter was kind and attentive, making the experience even better. The food and cocktails were outstanding. I ordered the al pastor enchiladas, which were absolutely phenomenal, and paired them with the Desert Rose cocktail, which was equally delicious. My friend had the chile relleno and tortilla soup—both of which I got to taste, and they were excellent. Another friend ordered the carne asada tacos, and although I didn’t try them, they looked amazing.
Overall, I would recommend this place!
