This place is hidden in Ben Lomond, located in beautiful Santa Cruz mountains off hwy9 surrounded by Redwoods. If you are hungry after your hikes in redwoods and crave for marzipan based cookies or items, this is the place to go. They have a good selection of baked items, pizzas, desserts and many other options. This review is primarily for desserts and Marzipan (almond) bakery items. As a marzipan fan, tried everything they make using almond paste. Some are okay, few stay on the top of the list.

Being from Eastern Europe I appreciate a good capuccino. It was perfect and the pastries were to die for. Too bad I found it in the last morning of our trip.

Great Italian pastry, pizza, and products in the Middle of the woods. A true gem on your way to Santa Cruz or back.

100% recommend! Even if you have to drive an hour to check this place out, you must! Outstandingly delicious treats. We had a bunch of bakery items and bought home some pasta and sauces. Total authentic Italian in every sense 🙂

This place is the best in town, even in Santa Cruz county! From deliciously addictive baked goods made in house daily to important gelato! As well as the BEST pizza, well worth the price! (It is a thin crust, some may compare it to a “New York style” I’d recommend to anyone looking for baked goods and treats, or an easy pizza dinner you need to make a trip to this little mountain bakery.

Wait times almost zero. The best food I’ve had from a small town bakery in a while. They serve fresh made pizza with small being able to feed two to 3 people. Their dessert section is rich with choices both traditional and very unexpected. Worth a visit if you’re traveling or live in the area.

Mama Mia!!! Having lived in New York on the Island for a few years, I became accustomed to New York pizza through friends I made there. Ordering a large pepperoni pizza was the thing to do hanging out after school. I moved to California and nothing compared. Then I did a job in NYC back 1997-99 and was reminded of how wonderful the pizza is there. Nothing like it in California to my knowledge and I have hunted far and wide. La Placa absolutely nails it!!! If you fancy authentic NY style pizza you just have to try it. I hear they opened another restaurant on Water St. in Santa Cruz too. The pie and crust are so delicious, the toppings just the right proportions and the cheese is heavenly! Don’t miss out!!!

The cappuccino can’t be beat (truly, you’ll never want your cappuccino anywhere else) & the deserts are unmatched and they have truly Italian gelato and pizza!

We recently moved to Scotts Valley from the city and have been trying pizza places in the area. Everything has been pretty lackluster so when a friend recommended this place, we gave it a shot.
