Hands down best private non chain bakery around. I got cookies and cakes from here when I was a boy and I’m now 42 and they taste just as delicious as I remember, it’s difficult to maintain that standard of taste and quality. The staff is second to none. They did our wedding cake and the taste and presentation was amazing, highly recommended!

Very empty store front. I wasn’t sure it was actually open when I opened the door. Two enclosed pastry cases were mostly empty. To be fair, it was the afternoon so perhaps they sold out of most items by the time I was there.

I’m not sure if they’re planning a remodel or going to put in seating, or if that’s just the way it looks now. but they should consider doing something different with the front of house.

The thumbprint cookies are soft – Not quite the traditional almond cookie texture I was expecting. I do love the non-uniform shapes, indicating there’s still some manual process in place. The icing is very sweet, but since there’s just a small dollop, it’s ok.

Fantastic! Great quality and friendly staff all in a nicely renovated building downtown Richmond. The building was previously a different bakery and its cool to feel the long history of this location. The owners seem genuinely excited about their bakes goods and sharing them with customers!

We had 24 cupcakes and a single cake for my granddaughters birthday party. They were a big hit. Everyone was talking about how moist the cake and cupcakes were and how good the icing was too. I would recommend them for all your cake and cupcake need. We will be back soon. Thank you for the awesome job. You are highly recommended.

Had a solid experience. The young lady working that day was pleasantly helpful and knowledgeable; regrettably, I’ve forgotten her name. Hospitality is hit or miss these days, but she was genuine. Employee of the month status…maybe year.

Anyhow, she patiently addressed all my inquiries about the goods and the shop itself. For those just passing through, you might find her insights as interesting as I did.

Came in thinking I’d get a couple things, but got hooked on her recommendation of “thumbprint cookies.” I believe that’s what they’re called. They sell em by the bag at various weights. Her baklava suggestion? Spot on.

Left with six items at the low low price. I’m used to that Los Angeles spending. This little shop was a fraction of the cost. Quality stuff.

Thank you kindly,

I was passing through Richmond and stopped by the old JoAnn bakery. I live in Maryland and my cousin had mentioned the bakery was open. Wow, the thumb print cookies are just as amazing as when I used to ride my bike to JoAnns decades ago as a kid. Thank you for reopening. The owner was so personable.

I was born and raised in Richmond and always looked forward when I came home to joy Anne’s when they closed I was heart broken. When my mom told me they reopened I was estatic. Every time I’m in town I go and they have been absolutely wonderful, the owner even offered to ship cookies to Florida. Wonderful bakery. Very nice and kind people. This bakery is a true Joy to Richmond. Blessings upon blessings.

I ran in here to get breakfast goodies for a work meeting because where I had planned on going was sold out. They had a lovely strawberry Danish and I grabbed some cinnamon rolls too just in case someone was allergic to strawberries. The staff member was friendly and so helpful. She knew about her products and some other customers came in behind me and she greeted them by name.

I’ve done my homework, went toall of the individually owned bakeries in town and this is the best in Richmond. The buttercream icing is the real deal and is AmAzInG! The Wedding Cake cookies are top notch too.

The staff have always had smiles on their faces and seemed genuinely appreciative for my business. It makes a difference.

The best bakery in Richmond! Full of classics everyone knows and loves plus a bunch of genuine Mediterranean treats that bring back memories of my youth in Detroit and Dearborn. The baklava is fantastic!
