First timer here. Went as a party of 5. Food was below average, especially for the price. Little to no seasoning or taste for my birria tacos. 3 tacos, a sauce sized side of beans and rice for $20 is criminal. The beans were by far the worst refried beans I’ve ever had. It was pretty much bean puree. Couldn’t even scoop it up with a fork. On top of that a “mandatory” 20% gratuity was added to the bill. We notified the server that we wanted it removed but he straight up LIED to our faces and said it applies to groups of 5 or more. He then returns with an updated receipt with the 20% removed and our party size lowered to 4. THE MENU LITERALLY SAYS IT APPLIES TO PARTIES OF 6 OR MORE. It felt so slimy and scammy from our server who I’m sure has done this to other parties of 5 in the past. Did he

My friends and I all met up in Saint Charles for my birthday celebration and the food was amazing. We got there late and they saved our table. We were allowed to bring our own cake in which we got from my favorite bakery in Oak Park so we were glad they didn’t give us a hard time for bringing our own dessert. The best pastor tacos we have had in a long time and our server was really nice and took good care of our large group he also recommended a bar to go to for the after party flagship and they were awesome too! Can’t wait to come back so worth the drive!

Well decorated, this upscale Mexican restaurant serves good food and cocktails. Check out the Fajitas and the shrimp appetizers. Desserts were kinda disappointing with the chef liberally anointing everything right from a tres leches cake and dipping sauce for the churros with liberal blobs of whipped cream !

Excellent margaritas here! Especially when it’s happy hour. Fajitas are flavourful. Had tacos and burritos here as well. Salsa selection is a great feature just wish the chips were a little less greasy. Olivia is a fantastic bartender. The owner also can make great margaritas. The hostess is super nice.

We ordered carry out and the food was delicious. We had several different guacamoles, salsa, shrimp tacos and a steak burrito. The order was ready for pick up on time and was hot when I got home. My rating for atmosphere is based on prior visits. We will definitely eat at La Mesa in the future and will get carry out as well.

The Margarita was amazing! I would come back for the margarita alone.
Tried the mango salsa, wanted to love it but it was more like a baby food puree so was hard to enjoy the flavors.
The tacos were okay, nothing special and were missing some flavor to make it stand out.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, definitely more of a modern take on tacos – not authentic.
Will definitely be back for the margaritas and to hopefully find something we love on the menu.

I have never ate a bad Mexican meal in my life till now! It’s NOT really Mexican at all. Who uses ground chicken in Chicken Tamales ?? I had the Barbacoa tacos. It was presented in corn tortillas, the only problem, they only used a single corn tortilla and as soon as you picked it up, it falls apart in your hand! Should have used two! Plus the Barbacoa was not great! For $20 I expected way better. Margaritas are so-so. They are not served in a traditional margarita glass.
We were there with a party of 7. We told our waitress that we had 5 separate orders. When the bill came, it was all on one. We were then told, we would have to split it ourselves and they don’t split checks. Crazy! Then after we started trying to figure out who owes what, we discovered we were over charged $35!
The manager was rude and condescending. When we tried to get the bill corrected, the manager rolled his eyes and said, “Jesus Christ!” for all to hear.
What a horrible experience to pay 400 dollars for and a 20% gratuity that was automatically added for service that was sub-par.
If you’re looking for good Mexican food, go Elsewhere! You won’t find it here! Go “REAL” Mexican restaurant!

This restaurant is one of my absolute favorite places. The food , drink, atmosphere and service are top notch. Everything is made from scratch and quality ingredients. And no skimping on portions. We love coming here even though we have to drive 45 minutes. Plus the town of st Charles is charming, I highly recommend!
