The salsa rojo was delicious—Smokey and flavorful! If the rest of the food had been bad, the salsa would have made up for it. My spouse had a burrito with red sauce, I had a burrito with chile verde and a chile relleno. Everything was delicious!! The shredded beef on the chile relleno was slow-cooked, tender, and full of beefy flavor. Chile verde was also delicious with falling apart tender chunks of pork in it.

Today, I had one of the most tasty chimichangas I’ve ever had. The chicken inside was shredded and the flavor wasn’t dependent on toppings or sauces. It was scrumptious! My husband’s pork enchilada was equally delicious. The service was quiet and competent, the restaurant—including restrooms—was clean, and the food was delivered to our table quickly. Overall, an excellent experience!

Good little Mexican food place. The food was good and served hot. The server never really checked on us, he spent most of his time talking to one table and the rest of us were ignored except to place the order. When he brought my food it was not what I ordered but I could never get his attention to tell him so I ended up eating it rather that keep waiting. They were not very comfortable with the service dog laws. They wanted to see a vest. A service dog is not required to be in a vest nor are there any special papers (per ADA), but mine was vested so he was ok with us coming in and asked us to sit in the corner.

We stopped in for a late lunch, however we were told that they were not serving lunch any more. We ordered our food, a chimichanga and chicken burrito (when the burrito can it was more like fajitas). The salsa was really warm and we asked if they had anything milder and she said we could try the salsa bar. We tried a couple things but not very good. I got some radishes off the salsa bar but they were very soft/mushy and slightly yellow. I told our waitress and she said she would take care of it (they were still there when we left). Our food was ok, either bland or spicy hot if you added the salsa. When we got our bill I noticed that my pop was $3.95 and the menu says it’s $2.50, so she said she would change it, she changed it to $2.95. I know that it is a small price but a family of eight was seated at the time we were paying and that is a lot extra they are overcharging people. Also the restaurant is called Chavolo’s but all of the branding inside says La Mesa. Would not recommend going here based on this experience.

Visiting Colorado staying at the state park and decided to try La Mesa rather than driving into Durango. Awesome Mexican food and awesome service. So good we came back the next day to try the breakfast!

Great service, great food, great atmosphere. We ate dinner early so it wasn’t crowded at all. Chips and salsa came automatically and the chips were still warm! The salsa was very tasty and relatively mild, only a slight afterburn. My friend got a couple other salsas from the salsa bar and really went to town on the the hottest one. He had carne asada and loved it. Braver than I, ha ha. I had the pollo a la crema and the fresh mushrooms, juicy chicken, and sour cream sauce was utterly addictive! Tasty and smooth frijoles, everything was just delicious. Big portions in my opinion. Would definitely stop here again and try more dishes.

I came to work for a week in Mancos and little did I know that I would find such an authentic Mexican joint all the way out here. Food was wonderful, service was amazing, ambiance was absolutely awesome, loved regular people just mingling and having a nice time. This is what America is, regular folks just having a relax time while enjoying good food. Looooved it…!!!

our to go order took 40 minutes, after they said it would take 15. when we finally got it food was not correct, cheese was not melted, has a side of a avocado but as you can see in the picture that is clearly not avocado. burritos tasted like metal. the wings gave me terrible food poisoning. also, other costumers were asking us how to get their attention because they had been waiting to be seated for a long time.
