For appetizers, I got the cold shrimp and octopus cocktail along with half a dozen oysters. The oysters were so fresh that we ended up ordering another half dozen. For our entrée, we shared the Chapuzón, which came with cooked shrimp, octopus, and oysters in a flavorful house sauce that paired really well with everything. The sauce is so addicting, we ordered some rice to enjoy it some more.
We finished with a flan that wasn’t the typical style you see everywhere, but it tasted really good and was a nice way to end the meal.
Danny, the owner, was very welcoming and attentive the entire time. The service was great, and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. Overall, it’s a spot I’d definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys mariscos. Ask him about his catering options for the holidays!
Pricing isn’t an issue in my opinion, you pay for what you get and we left very full and satisfied. We will definitely be coming back!
For my main course, I ordered the fish taco dinner. Unfortunately, this is where the experience fell short. The fish was breaded, oily, and lacked seasoning, with the thick, greasy coating overwhelming the taste and texture of the fish itself. The tacos were simply layered with lettuce and tomato, and came with a side of mayo-based sauce that had a hint of sweetness. I typically prefer my fish tacos with cabbage and a spicy sauce, so this was a letdown.
The sides didn’t help—a very small bowl of cold, bland beans and an equally bland portion of cold rice.
While the service was really good, the food overall was not worth the $40 price tag. Given the many other excellent Mexican and seafood options in the area, the meal was ultimately disappointing, and I wouldn’t return.
The waiter was absolutely wonderful, handling a large party and other tables with such a polite and caring attitude. It’s a clean place with a great vibe. There’s karaoke on Friday nights.
I’m sure this restaurant will be around for a while. It’s a great addition to Des Plaines’s growing list of fabulous restaurants.
Beautiful interior, amazing service, and super delicious food. I had the coco relleno, camarones zarandeados, and shrimp empanadas — everything was super flavorful and fresh. Drinks were amazing as well, the coconut mojito was to die for! Can’t wait to come back.
Our server, Diani was very sweet and attentive. Thank you! We’ll be back.
