Did you know about La Maria? Neither did we, and we’ve been here for 25 years! It is a hidden gem, as the saying goes, but I would modify it to a hidden diamond!
Walking into La María, it looks a little unusual, it looks less like a sit down restaurant and more of a “order your food, pick up at the counter, and sit down where are you like” kinda place. But they have full table service, and the servers are wonderful. So we were greeted right off the bat with smiles and cheers, which is always a good indicator of the restaurants quality and viability; as my habit goes, I looked at what other people were eating, to see what’s popular. There were a variety of lovely Colombian dishes, all looking delicious, and everyone seem to enjoy their food. Our server came out, and we ordered drinks, and this is where the nostalgia kicked in, because the drinks came out in a can with a cup. Very old-fashioned! It reminded me of those old little places that I used to go to in the 80s, and that’s what me and my wife like, places that remind us of our younger days.
My wife ordered the grilled chicken salad with black beans, and I ordered the beef stew. The server assured me that it did not have any dairy products in it, milk or cheese or butter. I have been trying to avoid carbohydrates as much as possible, so I barely touched the rice that it came with. However the stew itself was fantastic! As you can see from the photos, the meat was falling off the fork, very tender and juicy. And my wife got more than she bargained for with the chicken salad. I think it came with 3/4 of a pound of chicken. She took the rest of her meal home, and we ate, reminisced and enjoyed looking at the beautiful artwork on the walls at the restaurant.
I hope you enjoy the photos and videos, and pay this wonderful little restaurant a visit. The parking is around back, kind of hard to figure out that first, but once you get it you’ll figure it out. When we were there, there was plenty of street parking for free.

This place is amazing! The food is so good and there’s something on the menu for everyone. The servers are kind and good and what they do. I loved sitting out on the patio and enjoying my meal!

So i’ve been to this place on and off. When I do my laundry, I like to settle down for a few and have dinner.
My favorite is the pork chop and the carne asada meals. They put the sides like the plantains and other goodies in there. I definitely leave stuffed. Good flavors for what I’ve had recently. I had a omelette with the sausage recently and a side of potatoes with onions.
My only drink I like to get is the Pony Malta. Tasty beverage.
I would definitely stop by and try it one day and you might just come back again.

My family and I always enjoy going out to eat; the waitresses’ service is very good and the food is delicious, except for this one day when my wife and I went to eat. For an appetizer, we ordered plantains, and they were colder than my soul in the North Pole. Then I ordered chorizo with arepa; again, the arepa was too cold, and the chorizo was cooked on top but cold in the middle. I ordered sancocho, which was also too cold. in the pork bandeja paisa were undercooked. Then I reordered the plantains because my wife loves them, and I complained, asking if they could heat them up more. They sent me some reheated ones that looked like they were three days old. I don’t usually complain about places, but you pay for the food, and it’s not fair to have these kinds of experiences.

The restaurant is really nicely decorated and clean. Makes you feel like you are on vacation. Nice Latin music playing i. The background. It has outdoor sitting in the front and back of the restaurant. I had the Carne Asada. The meat, rice, salad and plantain were really good. I didn’t like the beans at all. The yuca was good too. The food didn’t take long to be served. The meat and rice were beyond expectation. I really liked it!

My quest in search for an authentic Colombian restaurant lead me to La Maria Restaurant. However, I was a bit disappointed with their short list of dinner options. Despite this, our party of four ordered different drinks and plates hoping our tastebuds would be capitulated to our memories of the past. Unfortunately, we were all utterly disappointed. The food was very bland and the service was subpar. This place is more of a Colombian cuisine style restaurant instead of traditional authentic fare. The atmosphere is nice but not worth the trip in my opinion.
