Quaint French cafe chain serving rustic country fare, espresso & fresh-baked baguettes.

Delicious and great service . They ran out of napkins, and when I ask, they were more than happy to refill the bin and provide me with some ahead of time in an expeditious manner would definitely recommend it is a beautiful place for a first date.

The staff is friendly. The quality of the food has really gone down over the last year or so. I would say it’s no better than the food at Denny’s. The out door dining area is discussing.

Ayden, with the cool eyeliner and amazing personality, helped me out today~ They were so helpful and kind, I can be nervous trying new places, because of not knowing how the vice is, but Ayden made the atmosphere light and fun!!
The food tasted so fresh and well-made!
My husband and I had the Pesto Pasta Salad, Tomato Basil Soup, Chicken Cordon Blu pasta, Cappuccino, Iced Caramel Latte, and a Chocolate cake that I forgot the proper name for
Everything was delicious, and the tomato soup was literally the best I’ve tasted in my ENTIRE life, which I know was dramatic—but even my husband who doesn’t like tomato anything—LOVED this soup!
It has a really tasty acidicness to it, like citrus or vinegar kind of, that was really tasty.
Overall, such a beautiful place with beautiful food and exciting options—I wanted to try so many others dishes. We’ll be back for sure~!

Update 5 months later: went back even after the fruit fly issue after first inspecting the pastry case. The case seemed free of bugs this time ..that’s an improvement. We order food, went to get our utincles and napkins etc to sit down. No napkins and only metal spoons and knives available, luckily they had plastic available in the packages with napkins, which apparently it’s a bus your own table situation these days. We walk to the dining room there around about 6 empty tables but all dirty. With zero clean tables to sit at I start moving the used dishes to a big empty table next to the fire place. The lady brining out food for someone else noticed me cleaning a table and started helping. A few minutes later she was cleaning a table off for another customer looking for a place to sit. We were there probably 40 minutes and saw 1 very slower busser clean off 1 table. By the time we left the one long table was just a dumping ground for all the used dishes….I can see now why there was no clean forks, they must have all been on this table (photo shared). This place is run ridiculously bad.
Old review:
I have been to the Marketplace location a few times. I like the atmosphere, quiet and chill. But, there are a couple things that could stand improvement. The cherry turnovers, there really is no filling, it is basically a light layer of cherry sauce that has congealed to the inside walls of the pastry. I have ordered these twice and twice been disappointed. I do enjoy the dark cherry cream cheese danish, it’s quite good with the exception that they put way too much powder sugar on top. Infact I have come to crave these quite a bit. That being said, I went in this past weekend to get one and to my utter dismay there were at least half a dozen visible fruit flies walking around on said pastries, and several others flying around freely within the glass pastry case. I spotted one dead carcus next to a chocolate mouse slice. When I told what I suspected was a person in charge they seemed to act like me informing them of the pastry infestation to be bothersome. Had they even bothered to say thank you for helping keep the customer food clean, or offered to make me a fresh unmolested pastry that would be a different story, but nothing but a blank stare. There has been an occasion or two that there were several tables that needed to be bussed thus leaving minimal clean seating options. I have probably only eaten at this location 7-8 times, there have been too many negative experiences, that coupled with the images of fruit flies crawling over my potential breakfast keeps me from coming back. Also, The window next to the front entrance is filthy. I will say the croissants are damn good but the fear of getting unwanted extra protein is too much.

I wouldn’t be so mad at this place if the general manager wasn’t so mean to me, I went there with my mom as soon as we got to the mall, I had my dog, no he’s not a service animal but he is in a tall stroller buckled in and he’s a Cairn Terrier, the first time we where in there, I stayed by the main entrance cause as a owner I know people don’t like dogs by their food and I didn’t want to say outside cause the sun was hot but as my mom ordered a snack he was fine no one said anything, the second time after an hour we went back for lunch I stayed by the entrance again and now the general manager was there, my mom was looking at the menu and I asked for one cause she looked at me and was charging at me, she came up to me with an annoying customer service voice that you can tell someone is pissed she goes “is this a service dog” and I replied with “no but can I have a menu?”
“Is this a service dog?” And I was going to repeat my answer when she went,
“You have to go outside” didn’t even let me get a menu mind you there was fly’s all outside and the sun was beaming at the tables with no shade and I was by the entrance and there was no people inside, listen I wouldn’t be so mad if she was nicer and didn’t give me attitude cause I know that places like these don’t allow dogs and I would understand that attitude if the dog was on a leash sniffing everyone but he was in his stroller calm laying down ready for a nap, over all she could’ve been nicer and not made me seem like the idiot in the situation. Will not be going again at least have a no dog sign and mean employees.
Ps I’m not saying I’m in the right here I know that most places don’t allow dogs but this was our second time going in, and I would’ve been understanding if she spoke in a kinder and more meaningful way like people are trained to do in situation like these not just storm up and basically sound like an angry karen.

After a chaotic order pickup, I am highly disappointed in this La Madeleine location. I visited the Chandler location and enjoyed my meal there;however, the Gilbert location was unpleasant, disorganized, and unsanitary. There was a young man who was going through the sandwiches and opening the wrapper to look at the food all without gloves to prevent any food contamination. The order had an item that was not available and instead of informing us that the item was not available. It was just marked off and it wasn’t until the staff was asked about the missing item that they mentioned it was not available. We were told that we would need to go through the app in order to request a refund for the missing food item or that we could substitute another item for it. If we were not aware of these policies, we would have walked out of the location without any knowledge of the food being missing, but also it would’ve been incorrect with the store locations bookkeeping as a sale was made, but the product was not delivered. I believe whoever is in charge of this location needs to discuss food and handling precautions as well as come up with a better system for the pick up section. I will be calling to speak with a manager in the morning about this issue.

The pastries were fresh and well made, and the atmosphere was good upon entry. Unfortunately, my experience at the counter felt a bit awkward and unwelcoming over something minor, which took away from the enjoyment. While the food itself was good, I don’t think I’ll be returning. Wishing the team well.
Same rude cashier from another review…

I ordered double shot cappuccino and came out as cold. I reordered and still not hot just enough to be warm. Also it was not cappuccino. It was more likely a latte. Very unpleasant experience for the la madeleine quality. Order a latte and then maybe get a cappuccino.

Interesting experience.
Ample employees, never a line and all but 2 tables were covered in dishes. We dined in and they walked past the tables multiple times and never stopped to clear them. One family had to push dirty dishes over to fit their family.
Only plastic utensils were available for us to use.
My food was very meh. Husband said he was OK.
We had been here before and remembered liking it but dont think we will be back after this.

Every time I go here, I remind myself I need to go more often. I love this place! The atmosphere has a home-y, rustic, French patisserie or boulangerie feel. When you walk in you are immediately greeted by the pastry display offering so many delicious options. I love that I can get a tiny little dessert for days when I don’t feel like splurging calories, but when I do, I have options for that as well. You order your food at the register, anything from pasta to salads and soups to crepes. They bring your food to you and they clean up after you, so leaving a tip is a good idea. The staff is dressed for the part of French restaurant staff and they even use some French terms when addressing you, like bon appetit. It’s just so charming! The food has always been top notch when I’ve gone as well. This particular time I had the ham and swiss crepes, a small lemon tart, and we also tried the corn chowder and a lemon madeleine. Everything had amazing flavor and texture. It was nice to sit and enjoy the fireplace, and just relax like I would if I were on vacation in France. Definitely recommend!
Later….went back for breakfast, which is served all day, and it was amazing also!
Even later (June 2025): I stopped in today for treats and learned that corporate is discontinuing the lemon madeleines. Beyond disappointed!! That is something I get every time I’m there, and the dipped ones just aren’t as tasty. The staff said that’s the same feedback they are getting from everyone, so corporate is apparently doing this despite the popularity.
