La Luz del Dia is a cafeteria-style restaurant serving Michoacan Mexican food in the historic Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles. The restaurant was officially established at this location in 1959. Before there was the La Luz del Dia restaurant, there was a La Luz del Dia grocery store, established in 1915 just a few blocks down on Main Street where the 101 freeway is today. It relocated to several places along Main Street including right next to the Plaza Church, North Spring Street, and in 1966 the Sepulveda House. La Luz del Dia is known for their carnitas, tamales, hand-made tortillas, pastel azteca, and for the adventurous, chicharrones.
Time-tested cafe serving Michoacan Mexican cuisine in a quaint & colorful venue with patio seating.

Services was decent
Unfortunately there was a cocaroach in my nieces agua fresa
No apologies no discount
Just served her a new drink and apparently nothing ever happened .. kind of a bummer when we spent $245. And some change. 1 star for today’s service pls do better and please have the due diligence to keep your place clean .
Side note when my wife asked for a refill on her Pepsi
We still couldnt get a free drink or discount on that . Smh DO BETTER !
I have been eating at this restaurant for many years but had not returned for quite a while until today.
I ordered the #3 plate with a taco and tamale and the tamale was hard and dry with a tiny sprinkling of meat in the middle and the carnitas taco was dry.
The rice and beans were tasteless.
The restroom does not have a toilet seat dispenser so you have to use toilet paper as a seat cover, very inconvenient.
They have a cozy patio that full of flowers and birds chirpping.
You won’t miss anything if you don’t come and you won’t regret anything if you do come.
And there are fresh homemade tortillas here! 🙂
