For anyone who is looking for an authentic Italian restaurant at Edinburgh, I truly recommend this place!

The hospitality offered from the waitress who served me was incredible. The waitress maintained a positive and friendly attitude throughout the whole service as well as displaying knowledge of how the restaurant works and what products the restaurant has. The selection of Italian beers was great considering that a brand called Ichnusa was sold which can be rare to find. I did also treat myself to a Peroni that comes with a red label which was refreshing. The food was delicious and I could tell that everything was made fresh making the experience even better. I forgot to take the picture of the spaghetti that I ate but I did include the prawn starter dish that was tasty.

Unfortunately, I did not ask for the waitress’ name but the waitress did have ginger hair and appeared to be at a young age.

I wish this restaurant all the best!

Absolutely marvellous… I’d highly recommend this place.

The food was delicious, the staff were great and they serve some exceptional Grappa!

The BEST meal of our long weekend break in the city.

Decent handmade pasta. Only complaint is the sauce of ragu tastes exactly the same as the meatballs entry which is a bit boring for my experience.

The pasta I had was delicious, the sauce had lots of flavor, the meatballs were excellent, and the service was great. I didn’t have a reservation, which I’m sure can be a problem during the high tourist season since the seating area is quite limited, but thankfully when I got there, I was seated right away. The prices did seem a bit high, but this is a very nice restaurant located in the old town, so it was what I expected in this situation. There is a 12.5% gratuity fee added to your bill. The wait staff were very kind, and when I had to leave early due to a bad headache, they put my food in a to to container and showed concern about my well-being, which was greatly appreciated. I would recommend this restaurant!

Best pasta I ever had.
I took the main of the day, pasta all’ amatriciana. The sauce was amazing. There was a strong flavor of tomato with a spicy touch that was perfect! And the pork was so crispy!
If I ever come back to Edinburgh I will eat here again for sure!

Tasty food and decent service, but prices are a bit high. The place is comfortable though not remarkable. Great if you’re after good Italian cuisine, less so if you’re watching your budget.

A truly fabulous dining experience from start to finish. La Locanda on Cockburn Street continues to impress with its warm, inviting atmosphere, exceptional food, and attentive, friendly service. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. It’s a very small, intimate restaurant, which adds to its charm—but it does mean you need to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

For drinks, I enjoyed a lovely glass of red wine with my meal. My husband started with a Limoncello cocktail—zesty and vibrant—followed later by a fine whisky to round off the evening.

Our starters were both from the specials menu: I had the Trio di Crostini—a delicious variety of flavours and textures—while my husband chose the Arancini, perfectly crisp on the outside and creamy within. For mains, I had the Ravioli, rich and delicately balanced, and he went for the Lasagne, a hearty, flavourful classic.

We finished with desserts: Tiramisu for me and Panna Cotta for him. Both were absolutely delicious—we were already halfway through before we remembered to take any photos!

Having dined here before, we returned with high expectations—and once again, La Locanda did not disappoint. A real gem in the heart of Edinburgh, and one we’ll happily return to time and again.

Every time I visit Edinburgh, this Italian restaurant is a non-negotiable stop for me. I’ve been here many times, and it consistently delivers on every level. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, but the desserts? They are truly legendary. There’s no other way to describe them—they are simply out of this world.
Beyond the food, the soul of this place is the hospitality. I’ve witnessed moments where the staff went completely out of their way to comfort guests in need with genuine warmth. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t just serve meals, but genuinely cares about the people sitting at their tables.
This isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a place that treats its customers like family. Whether you’re here for the incredible food or the warm vibes, you’ll leave feeling better than when you arrived. A true Edinburgh treasure.

I came in as a solo traveler with no reservation. I got seated immediately but keep in mind I’m here during calm seasons.I had the Bruschetti special as started and the Pappardelle Al Ragout as the main course. The staff immediately asked for dietary and allergy issues. Everything felt and tasted very Italian. Service was really nice and attentive. Atmosphere was nice.
