Service was very good and friendly. The atmosphere was nice, especially after the music volume was lowered to a level that was tolerable. The wine list was really good – it is nice to have some Italian/French offerings in an area that tends to only have local wines. The wines compliment the food very well.
The not so good:
The food is mediocre at best. If you are a foodie like we are, and actually know either how to cook yourself or have traveled extensively enough to know what really fine cuisine is, you will *not* be impressed by this restaurant. If, on the other hand, you think Olive Garden constitutes haute cuisine, you might think this is really good food.
The arugula salad was fresh enough but the dressing was unbalanced in the extreme. It was like tasting nothing but raw lemon juice. Very sour. The lasagna bolognese was not even as good as the frozen lasagna we buy at the grocery. The butternut squash ravoli was not bad, but a bit too sweet.
It was not a bad experience but the food is not compelling enough for us to return.
La Locanda delivers authentic Northern Italian cuisine in an intimate, welcoming setting. The food is fantastic, with highlights like the lasagna Bolognese, butternut squash ravioli, and fresh salads that burst with flavor from local ingredients. Every dish feels homemade and thoughtfully prepared, making it some of the best Italian I’ve had in California.
Hospitality shines through with attentive, friendly service that makes you feel like family—servers offer spot-on wine and menu recommendations. The cozy patio adds to the relaxing vibe, perfect for a memorable evening
The place is cute, and the menu looked delicious, but unfortunately we felt so unwelcomed that we just left. Hopefully, your mileage will vary!
(We went to a restaurant up the street and then played pinball afterward, so it was a lovely birthday regardless).
* The warm bread and fresh service of oil and vinegar was a nice treat
* Tortellini in brodo was delicious, as was the arugula salad for starters. Bravo!
* Lasagna amazing, pillow soft, we’d pull the nutmeg in the sauce back just a touch
* would be good if you could pour the WBTG at the table. A little more work, but feels more sincere. Selection of by the glass is good
* Tap water seemed chlorinated; Recommend you either filter it or not make tap an option, tap is not pleasant.
* Carbonara was excellent, maybe make the pasta a little more al dente?
* Tiramisu was soft and delicious, lovely texture and moist
* Overall the price for pasta is reasonable for the quality, frankly a good value for the overall experience
Escargot was excellent
Beef ravioli (no sauce) oso bouco (tender but not much taste) were mediocre. Bueno tavola and Giuseppe‘s are much better .
