1st couple times I got carne asada burritos which were pretty good the next time the meat had a lot of fat and bristle so then I thought I’d be adventurous and get a relleno burrito with carnitas. The sauce for the relleno was sour. I don’t know if it was old or by design but it was no Bueno. The carnitas was very little and not crispy. They charged me almost $19 for that burrito!

PS. There was a homeless guy their who was a bit to persistent and asked me and others for money/food. When I told him no in the park lot I saw him next pestering everyone in the restaurant. He then proceeded to Badger me for food while I was trying to order. The only reason why I bring this up is to warn you of the environment you’ll be in. If you live here you’re probably use to it.

The Flavor Spectrum of Mexican Bread Bakery.

La Gloria Bakery offers a beautiful cross-section of Mexican panadería heritage, where each bread carries a story—and a flavor—of its own. From the rich and velvety chocolate pastries to sesame-dusted croissants and colorful cookies, the selection speaks to the country’s regional diversity and deep-rooted baking traditions.

What makes Mexican bread so special isn’t just the variety, but the unique character of each type:

• Cornbread (Pan de Elote): Moist, sweet, and heartwarming—like the ones you loved that echoed the flavors of Guadalajara. It has that soft texture and subtle corn richness that makes it unforgettable.
• Conchas: Light and fluffy inside with their iconic sugary shell patterns—a morning staple with café de olla.
• Mantecadas: Muffin-like with a buttery essence, often wrapped in red paper—like the ones in your photo. Some are infused with nuts or chocolate chips for a delightful crunch.
• Empanadas: Filled with guava, pineapple, or cajeta, they offer bursts of fruity sweetness enclosed in flaky pastry.
• Cuernitos and Orejas: French-influenced croissant styles, adapted with a Mexican twist, sometimes brushed with syrup or sugar.
• Polvorones and Galletas (Cookies) : The have different flavors and different Shortbread types and the cookies most of them have a buttery taste and are great to drink with coffee, hot chocolate or milk.I like the sprinkle-covered ones they are tasty vibrant, playful, and perfect for celebrations or for any day.

But the winner was the Corn Bread it was sweet spongy, and moist. It had a very sweet butter milk flavor. I had this with Cafe de olla. It was a great experience.

Each tray, each bite is a window into culture, tradition, and creativity. It’s not just about sweetness—Mexican bread carries warmth, memory, and to have it sitting on a table to share with friends and family.

Absolutely delicious food. Huevos rancheros was made with a bright and fresh sauce, the tortillas were fried to literal perfection and stayed crispy. Chile Relleno burrito was hailed as the best ever. The chips were so good and the tortillas are made in house. Highly recommended! They are possibly Spanish-speaking only, so please be aware of this when ordering.
2025 Tamale update! Delicious, authentic cheese & jalapeño tamales and chicken tamales. Utterly mouthwatering, piping hot and tender. Smoky, spicy, well-seasoned masa and fillings with multiple peppers in the cheese tamale. The cheese was chewy and there was s lot of it. Red salsa is so good and spicy! Definitely the best tamales I have had in Oxnard.

Mostly a takeaway restaurant, it still has many tables, chairs available for those that wish to enjoy the food there, but on a Sunday, expect the place to be full. Ordered a pound of carnitas and two dozen corn tortillas; was not disappointed in the quality of the food or the friendliness of the staff. I also enjoyed the jimica, which was refreshing.

So my husband used to come here when he was working in the pest control industry. He and his co worker who knew to speak Spanish helped my hubby order. We came here again as we were lost looking for something else and he remembered how good this place was. So he doesn’t speak Spanish and did the best to order and the ladies weren’t to helpful to him and he was even frustrated. But I went in and I didn’t have a problem because I do speak Spanish. Any who’s I ordered and food is super fresh and good. Restroom is clean. The sweet bread is fresh and so good. There’s something for everyone. I haven’t made it to the ice cream section nor the carnicería but I’m sure it’s good cause the lines are out the door.

This location consist of a few different food vendors. You can say it’s a small food court. The main food store front has a lot of traditional Mexican plates to choose from, made freshly daily. On the weekends they serve good menudo. There’s an ice cream & juice bar there as well along with a panaderia. The panaderia, if you like coffee, try their cafe de la hoya!!! Trust me you won’t be disappointed, it’s delicious! Not to forget the fresh pan dulce and Mexican jelatinas “jello” in all sorts of different flavors they offer.

Good place for Mexican food, pastries, icecream, tortilla factory and a supermarket on the side, right in front of the Oxnard Transportation Center.

I had never been there before…it is a cool spot…we ate pan dulce and got new phones at the boost store located inside the market….while waiting for the phones to be transferred I did a little shopping….I was overlooked several times while in line at the butcher…..not for lack of the employees not noticing me….they just ignored me until another customer told the butcher that I had been waiting…he then turned to me with attitude…no greeting just stared at me so I pointed to what I wanted said 2 pounds and he tossed the bag of meat across the counter…?…
So..I went back to phone booth and there was a wall full of spices….I grabbed a couple..well as I woke up this morning my entire house SMELLED exactly like that market?? …I guess I failed to mention that the butcher area has a scent of old blood …which is not unusual for an over the counter old school butcher….but dam…it’s like the spice packages soaked up the stank?? I threw them out…but since I had put them away in my kitchen when I got home ..it had time to marinade in my cupboard….I will not ever be going back…the male employees at the meat counter were RUDE , but not everyone was rude….there were 2 employees that were cordial
