La Fontana is an urban oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of Belltown. Upon entering the courtyard, you are drawn to the bubbling fountain and the aroma of Sicilian cuisine in the air. La Fontana has been a fixture in Belltown for nearly three decades under the leadership of former owner Mario Fuenzalida. With his retirement in 2022, the new owners, Brazilian entrepreneurs Rodrigo Parisi and Saulo Cruz, decided to keep the restaurant’s soul untouched and bring innovation, impeccable customer service, and modern management and administration concepts. Ingredients continue to be handpicked and sourced from the best local suppliers to provide the most incredible combinations of Sicilian dishes in Washington. Come and allow us to surprise you!
Homestyle Sicilian fare served in a cozy space with brick walls, dark woods & a courtyard fountain.

We booked a table two days in advance. This place is popular. Many people make reservations before the weekend, especially for the terrace tables.
I truly like this restaurant. But there aren’t many parking spots outside. There were a lot of homeless people sitting nearby that day. Later, an ambulance even arrived because one of them felt unwell.
Loved the ambience but the only drawback is that there are a lot of homeless people outside and it’s kind of scary to walk around that area.
Parking is super tricky here so keep that in mind, it is smack down in the middle of the city so we were prepared for that. You can either park near a parking lot or parallel park on streeet parking for free.
Outside it looks small but once you walk in it’s absolutely gorgeous. I believe they have outdoor seating when it’s nice and sunny out but we came when it was cold and wet outside.
The food was phenomenal! Definitely coming back here for more to try the other things on the menu. If you are a RISOTTO lover this place is for you.
What we ordered: burrata (fresh Italian cheese made from an outer shell of mozzarella filled with a creamy center of fresh mozzarella curds)
4 pieces of garlic bread ( best side topped with Parmesan cheese )
Risotto ai Funghi (topped with truffle oil) super flavorful! If you like meat you can add protein like chicken
Linguini di mare (showstopper!) black ink pasta with loads of seafood
One thing I want to comment on, our server, he was nice however he seemed like he was in a rush. When he was taking our order, I told him our entrees and he grabbed the menu from me (didn’t even ask if he could grab the menu, like what) then I had to ask the menu from him back cause I just wasn’t done ordering. Another thing that caught me off guard is he was coughing loudly in the corner.
Another thing is the main dishes took 30 minutes to come out (it was worth the wait though!) however if you’re in a rush I don’t recommend coming here as it’s a fancy dine in sit down restaurant. After like 30 minutes of waiting I asked our server if the food was coming and he said it is I’m just waiting for you to finish your appetizer (not sure if that’s the norm here but it was still good).
Not only the food was delicious but we were also given a hand written letter from the staff that made our night.
Thank you so much for the kind words and the amazing food!
We ordered two different kinds of ravioli. Both were amazing, specifically the sauce. The cost was a bit more than advertised, but I did order the special.
We did not order any alcoholic drinks, but they seemed to have a good selection.
For the appetizer, we ordered the eggplant with mozzarella along with a glass of white wine. Surprisingly, we were told they had run out of wine glasses and could either wait or drink from champagne glasses. That was definitely an unusual experience for me at a restaurant. The appetizer itself, though, was really tasty.
After about 30 minutes we moved outside and ordered our main courses: Pasta Norma and the three mushrooms pasta. The Pasta Roma was quite oily, the portion was very large, and the sugo was watery—it didn’t resemble what we’ve tried in different parts of Italy. The mushroom pasta, on the other hand, was better. For dessert, we tried the tiramisu, which was just okay.
Overall, it was a nice evening with a cozy Italian vibe, but the food and service details didn’t quite live up to expectations. I don’t think I’ll be coming back again
The seating inside the restaurant is a great option for a more intimate meal with a bit of a darker ambiance. They sometimes have a professional playing live piano.
The food always hits. The sauces are rich and the pasta is fresh. The service is always attentive and friendly. This spot often fills up, I highly recommend making reservations in advance.
