Leaving my car dealership at rush hour on a Friday, I wasn’t looking forward to traffic backups due to two construction sites on US1. So, “Hey, Siri. What’s a good restaurant near me?” The first one was a sushi – “dine in or carry out” – place on Northlake. That worked for me.

I turned and drove straight there. I walked in to see just a walk-up window – no dine in at all – and a couple of indifferent employees sitting amidst piles of clutter They barely glanced at me then returned to the fascinating content on their phones. And after being ignored while standing there for long minutes, I walked out.

Mere steps away was La Fogata – known locally for its fresh, delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine – yet which, in the over 30 years I’ve lived here, have never stopped to enjoy a meal. I’m glad I did tonight!

Between the sketchy sushi place and La Fogata, I passed a “Mexican Bar”. I was a bit outraged that someone would put this little bar right next to the popular Mexican restaurant. Like opening a new restaurant and naming it “(something) Reef Grill” just down the street from a well-established and popular restaurant that is beloved by locals and well known as The Reef Grill. That’s just wrong. But that’s a different story.

Well, I can set aside my judgement. While the La Fogata restaurant has its own nice bar, there’s a door from the restaurant to the “Mexican Bar”. Once I was greeted by the owner, Eduin, and seated, my waitress explained that they have Happy Hour in the bar next door, but in the restaurant, house margaritas are two-for-one every day. I’ll take the two-for-one margaritas any day!

Other restaurants have set my expectations for house margaritas very low. So I was happy to have a choice that included mango, guava and strawberry. I ordered a mango margarita – and an extra shot of tequila – given a history of mostly-commercial-mix “margaritas” at other Mexican restaurants.

Let me say: my La Fogata House Mango Margarita (with a sugared rim) was delicious! Awesome! It didn’t need the extra tequila (again, a nice surprise in quality) at all. Perfectly delicious with or without the extra tequila! I got a good lesson in not projecting past experiences on a new experience. I’m grateful for the lesson.

For my meal, my waitress recommended the Carne Asada – a traditional Mexican dish of thinly-sliced, marinated and grilled beef. In minutes, it was served, perfectly medium rare, as I’d ordered it. The meat was tender, nicely seasoned, and delicious.

While the salsa that accompanied the complimentary chips also was delicious, I enjoyed scooping the sides – including refried beans and guacamole – that accompanied the meal onto the chips, too!

Eduin was engaged in every aspect of running his restaurant. A friendly greeting to everyone who walked through the door. Asking a recently-seated party whether they’d like some appetizers. Offering a bag for my box containing the leftovers from the generous dinner proportions. I’m already looking forward to eating the leftovers for breakfast tomorrow!

I like to pay cash at small, owner-operated establishments like La Fogata. I had a $100 bill – or just enough smaller denominations to cover the bill, but that would have shorted the waitress $2 for a 20% tip.

Eduin to the rescue! He pointed out the almost $2 credit card charge on the bill. So, it turned out, I had exactly the right amount to pay cash, so they didn’t have to break a $100 bill before the Friday night customers started arriving, and still give my sweet server an adequate tip!

I highly recommend La Fogata. And now I have to wonder why I drove by it thousands of times over the years, but never pulled in until tonight. I’m glad the fates pointed me there tonight. I’ll be back!

Having moved from California where there’s an incredible amount of Mexican food to choose between, I was very pleased to discover this delicious food! Certainly this is my favorite place in Florida! I drive from Jupiter to come here. It’s worth the trip!

La Fogata Mexican Food is a great spot if you’re looking for flavorful, satisfying Mexican food. The food tastes fresh and well-seasoned, and the portions are plentiful—you definitely won’t leave hungry.
The location is convenient with easy parking, which makes stopping in stress-free. Overall, it’s a solid choice for good food, generous servings, and a comfortable experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

The price for the burrito was great! It was the main reason why I came here for the food/price portion. But when I asked for a coke Togo. They charged me $4 and said that was their restaurant price…..ive never been to a restaurant where they charge the price of the whole box of coke for the coke machine itself, and then the eye roll when he said it’s bc I’m buying it from a restaurant. I’m fully aware restaurant prices are more expensive than the grocery store, but $4 is insane.

This used to be a great place to eat at reasonable prices. Not any longer. I ate lunch there yesterday and the bill was 71 for 3 people. Even though I ordered off the lunch menu, they charged me more than full price. The entrees were 6-7 more than the lunch menu as advertised. In addition, they had the nerve to give me a surcharge because my daughter and wife shared an entree. See attached receipt. You be the judge. I will never eat there again. Not worth it!

Enjoyed La Fogata after scuba diving. Came in hungry and left full, with plenty to spare. Enjoyed the enchilada and tamale combo with black beans and rice, washed down with Pacifico draft. Service was quick and friendly. Overall experience was great. Looking forward to visiting again next time we are in the West Palm Beach area.

The most wonderful restaurant the service was amazing. The food was magnificent. It was like a party in my mouth the food the texture I have never found a better Mexican restaurant in the 10 years. I’ve lived in West Palm Beach and this is the truth. I know it sounds overwhelming, but come give it a shot and you’ll see how great it really is
