Because, I believe that we have the best Mexican food in Central Iowa..just my opinion !!
A majority of our resident’s families are originally from the Wonderful State of Jalisco, from towns you’ll recognize like Guadalajara and Tequila or from it’s bordering State of Michoacan.
And they bring that regionall flavor to us to enjoy.
This area, for me, has got the absolute best food and I tend to like places that produce that flavor that I associate with good Mexican food.
My go to place back home is, La Carreta. And forgive me Alfonso for cheating on LA Carreta with another restaurant !! Hahaha
But let us talk about La FInquita ( which means the little farm ), for those that are curious.
Through marriage of the owners it is a amazing blend of the base of flavors from Jalisco blended with the influence of Salvadoran Quisine that blend together to make a truly unique flavor profile that I enjoyed a bunch.
As normal, I could not decide what to try so I got two different Entrees, and packed a To Go Box for tomorrow’s lunch.
My Quesadilla Fajita, that I ordered with extra Sautéed Onions for a topper, was so gooey, and tasty, with it’s blend of Sliced Steak and Sliced Green Bell Peppers, with more Sautéed Onions inside, all of this cooked in a sauce that I absolutely loved.
That reminded me of the now closed Ernesto’s in Gilman, which I still rate in my top 5 of best Mexican in Central Iowa. My other meal of Steak and Shrimp, wrapped in Bacon and then cooked was the perfect “side” ..a bite of Quesadilla, bite of Steak, more Quesadilla, then a Bacon Wrapped Shrimp..repeat !!! LOL !! I guess you could say I was very impressed with La FInquita, on Highway 30 outside of Colo !! ❤️❤️
Their chips are very thin, crunchy and tasty. The salsa is top notch probably some of the best I’ve ever had at a Mexican restaurant.
If you don’t see something on the menu you can ask them and they’re more than willing to tweak something or even throw something together for you
Make sure to try the churros!!!
The staff is awesome and they stay on top of waiting on their tables even if they are busy.
I tried the Super Burrito which was mostly rice, then some beans, and very little ground beef. Also tried the Chorizo, with pieces of pork, it tasted okay. I ended up using it as a sauce for the burrito. The salsa for the chips tasted like tomato sauce.

The people are fairly friendly, and the service was average.
The cashier had to hunt for my ticket.
