My husband and I had just heard about La Fia and the recent nomination of its chef for a James Beard Award. We decided to go there for our belated Valentine’s Day dinner.
Our expectations were definitely met. Our waitress, Natacha, was very friendly, attentive and competent, and the food was wonderful. A couple of other nice waitresses delivered our food.
We shared a sublime appetizer of shrimp toast with whipped sesame and pickled green papaya. Don’t even think of any good old shrimp toast you’ve ever had. This was way beyond your usual fare for that dish – the most elevated shrimp toast, ever!
Our respective entrees were braised beef short rib for me, with rice porridge, Chinese broccoli and a red-chili molasses glaze; and dry-aged duck breast with black garlic parsnip puree, Asian pear, confit parsnip, and duck jus. Both were amazing!
We shared a wonderful dessert, I forget what it was exactly (it is not listed on their online menu, and I forgot to take a picture), but it was a lovely and delicately citrussy. I typically hate citrussy desserts, and I may now be reconciled with them!
We seldom dine out, but this was a special occasion – a wonderful fine dining experience. We will be back!

La Fia Bistro never misses.
We sat at the bar, which only has six seats, and it made the whole experience feel intimate, relaxed, and personal. Service was fast, friendly, and effortless from start to finish. Amy was our bartender and she’s the best, welcoming, fun, and clearly great at what she does.
We started with the Crispy Duck Leg Confit appetizer, which was outstanding. Perfectly crisp skin, rich and tender meat, and balanced flavors that set the tone for the rest of the meal.
The Wagyu Ribeye Steak special was the standout. Easily one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Cooked perfectly, incredibly flavorful, and paired with components that elevated the dish without stealing the spotlight from the beef.
Cocktails were just as impressive. The old fashioned was classic and spot on. The “If It Ain’t Broke” cocktail was creative, smooth, and memorable. And the espresso martinis are always a must for us, some of the best in Wilmington.
La Fia is a place we genuinely love coming back to. Amazing food, top tier cocktails, a cozy bar setup, and a great vibe every time. If you can grab one of those bar seats, do it. You won’t be disappointed.

La Fia has been on our list for a while and I am glad we finally got to try it. It did not disappoint. The food was excellent and a reasonable price for everything we ordered. The duck confit was incredible and probably the best dish. I would have skipped the desert if I went back.

Wonderful experience with very delicious food. The chef creatively infuse Asian elements into classic French and Italian dishes. Surprising delicious. Experienced what we’ve never had before.

Duck was a favorite and pairs well with the sauce. Scallops were very tender and juicy.
Lamb rigatoni pasta was a tad salty, but still good.

Visited this restaurant for a birthday dinner and had an overall pleasant experience. Our waitress was exceptionally kind and attentive, making us feel welcome from the start. The service was efficient, with food and drinks arriving promptly. The highlight of the meal was the fig toast, which was absolutely phenomenal – a perfect balance of flavors. I also tried the dry-aged duck breast, which was decent but didn’t quite live up to my expectations. While it wasn’t bad, it lacked the wow factor I was hoping for. Still, it was a nice evening with great service and standout dishes.

Went for Wednesday Prixe Fixe menu. It was so hard to make a choice before I ever tasted the food, that it’s incomprehensible to think about making a decision the next time I visit. The presentation, impeccable; tastes, imaginative; experience, welcoming. An absolute 6/5 experience.

Without a doubt the BEST restaurant in De. Not an exaggeration but a FACT. I came here tonight for a birthday, and my expectations were blown away. Not only was the service phenomenal, but the food was beyond incredible. Compliments the chef 10 times over. This was without a doubt, one of the best dining experiences I have had ever. I had the squid ink pasta, as well as a cheese charcuterie board, and the strawberry sorbet was to absolutely die for. 20/10 that good!!

I had the pleasure of experiencing La Fia on a Wednesday when they offer a 3 course meal for $46. Everything was tasty and well presented. I’ve walked past this place many times and didn’t think to give it a chance glad I did.

Food was quite good. Honest review at this high caliber: I felt it was overpriced. I really enjoyed my meal with my girl. And we went all out. But going all out I expect exceptional food. It was not worth $300 for two in my opinion for an “all out” night. I expected the tastes to be exceptional. I don’t think anything is wrong with the prices just have to elevate the food just a little. It’s so so close to being over the top. Just needs a little tweaking and more bold flavors in the dishes. I definitely would come back but probably not for about a year realistically. Fancy all out nights out are rare, a few times a year.
