I stumbled upon this establishment when I was searching for a Latin restaurant in Grubhub. Last night we decided against delivery and opted to drive out and dine in.
This place has a parking lot next door but it seems that this lot belongs to an auto repair shop not the restaurant, it has tow-away signs but we parked in the lot because it was after hours.

The restaurant is spacious, with plenty of tables, the music is low, the decor is low-key with some Winter motiffs. I told my wife that I was expecting more of an Island/Caribbean decoration.

My wife ordered the Asopaó de Camarones (Shrimp Soupy Rice) & got Spaghetti with Dominican Salami, Tostones & Avocado. Hot tea to drink. I expected the Spaghetti to come with Dominican Salami as an option (this is how Dominican Spaghetti is prepared and served) but unfortunately it does not, the Spaghetti is plain & adding the Dominican Salami is extra.

My wife’s Asopaó was full of shrimps, very tasty she loved it as did i. My Spaghetti with Dominican Salami was pretty good. The Spaghetti were al dente enough (not too soft nor too hard), flavorful, Dominican Salami chunks were hearty (I was hoping that the Salami would be stewed but it was fried instead), the avocado was fresh & unblemished, & the tostones were perfectly golden fried & crispy.

Ashley & Stacey were our servers and they were very friendly, full of smiles, on-point & honest. I said honest, because after paying the bill we asked for a pen to add a tip and she explained to us thar the tip (which is an automatic 15%) is already included. Which surprised us, usually tip is included with a party of 6 or more, we are only a couple.

My wife and I always tip between 10% & 20% depending on the service of course. But no matter how bad, horrible was the service we tip at least the 10%. We detest restaurants that force us to tip. We believe we have the right to give a certain amount of our hard earned money ourselves, without forcing our hand.

Because of this practice of including the automatic 15% tip, no matter the size of the dining party, I give a rating of 3 stars. If it wasn’t for this forceful tipping, I would have given this place an easy 5 stars.

So beware when dining in at La Cocina de Cristina, while the food is amazing, their tipping policy will force you to shell out 15% of your bill, whether the service was good or not. We will NOT dine in at this place ever again. If anything, I will order via Grubhub (which allows me to tip accordingly) or order take-out.

My empanadas were burnt and on top of that, there was hair in my food as well. I went back and just asked for a refund, didn’t make a big deal about it but I was upset because my toddler would’ve been the one to eat those. Once I asked for the refund the gentleman was very apologetic but then idk if the lady who came out was the owner or not but she was very hostile and extremely rude. She tried to call me a liar even after I showed her proof of the hair.

I’ve been wanting to try Mangu for the longest and today I finally had a chance to stop here early enough to have for brunch. The young lady that took my order was very kind and served me with a smile. Before I put in my order I asked if they had WiFi because I have some homework that I really need to work on. She told me yes but the boss has to give me the pw because she doesn’t know it.
I ordered and waited for the boss to give me the pw.
Boss was walking in and out and nothing.
I ate the mangu I did like it I’m not going to lie how ever a good review come from enjoying the food the service and the environment.
When I approached the boss his answer was “ we do have WiFi but I’m not allowed to share it with the customers” he said arrogantly too, I never saw smiled at any of the customers in there either.
Had they told me that from the beginning I would have gone to have breakfast at any of the many places that provide WiFi.
I will never eat here again and I don’t recommend it to anyone. I love Dominican food and most Dominicans give a welcome vibe when you enter their restaurants. Not this boss here

Great location. In an area where demand for spanish food could be good. However they dont capitalize on the opportunity. To start, the young girl that works there seems miserable to be there. Let’s hope she isn’t being forced to work there. She is rude and doesn’t greet anyone. And even after you walk in to an empty restaurant she doesn’t smile and carries on in a cold manner. Foodwise, I tried a simple chicken soup and chicharon. Probably the worst soup I ever had from a Dominican spot. Very greasy and taste was off. Chicharon. You cant really make a mistake with chicharon. Though this place chicharon was off as well.
This place is cozy and has alot of potential.
Its up to the kitchen and staff to capitalize on the opportunity. Two stars is generous.
That young girl needs to smile before they lose more customers. I wont be back for sure

The food was delicious. Rarely do we find a place that makes Dominican food the right way. Compliments to the chef (La doña in the back, probably una abuela ya) the Mofongo was on point, not too dry mot drowning in garlic or sauce. Didnt feel like somone was trying to cover up bad coocking with salt.

The whole family loved their dishes. The Juice could use some work but I would still recommend this place and will definitely be coming back here.

I suggest you give it try if you are ever in the mood for some good Dominican Food

La comida estaba muy buena. Le recomiendo esta local a cualquiera persona que esté buscando comida Dominicana.
Siento que no todos los que dicen que tienen comida Dominicana lo save cocinar bien. Pero aquí to salo delicioso. Te lo recomiendo

FOUND A DEAD BUG IN MY FOOD. I buy food often from this location and TODAY for the first time was very disappointed. Absolutely not acceptable and disgusting. Maintaining hygiene in the preparation and serving of food is crucial, and finding foreign objects in a dish is unacceptable. I hope you take this feedback seriously and address the issue to ensure the quality of your services.

The food here is amazing! Everything tasted fresh and full of flavor, just like home-cooked Dominican food. The portions were generous, and the service was super friendly. Definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to!
