Come here to get chilaquiles and online recommdation said everything is house made. But the plate is kinda small. Charge extra for chicken and egg and there were barely any chicken on it. I ordered chilaquiles, not beans and potatoes. Chips and salsa should be main components on the plate. Look at my picture.

They make their own tortillas which is nice. It is a little bit chewy like Yemeni bread. But I think the plate should be bigger for $18

The sopa de fideo, (Vermicelli Soup) is comforting, light and GOOD. Never had fideos like this before and I love stopping at Consuelo’s Kitchen for this comfort bowl of fideos. Not heavy. Just right.

I visited Consuelo’s because I love checking out small Mom and Pop restaurants that have been a part of local Austin history. Their place is super clean and well maintained. The experience starts from the moment you pull into their parking lot. They have parking in the back, but I liked pulling in literally right off Lamar Blvd by the front door. When you walk into the dining room, it screams adorably authentic. I was greeted by a very friendly lady who took my order and allowed me to practice speaking Spanish. The food came out right away. I recommend their huevos rancheros. I loved the delicious ranchero sauce so much I got extra. It isn’t overly spice or salty. They let you serve yourself coffee from a big thermos. They constantly check it to make sure it is full. I also enjoy being able to grab my own mug off the shelf above the coffee dispenser. It just feels homey! And best of all was that they steamed my milk to add to my coffee. The coffee tasted a 9/10 on the flavor. Corn tortillas tasted home made. Fun time!

I took my mom and my cousin here. There both picky eaters lol, and they loved the food and also the service, the staff is so nice and very welcoming. Not only do you feel like it’s home because of the atmosphere but the staff is so friendly and also the food definitely taste like home cooked food. Thank you all for having us, we left with smiles.

Homemade hole in the wall spot with great flavors, counter service, and a clean simple interior. I enjoyed the huevos rancheros with homemade flour tortilla and added bacon. All the items on the plate were great except the potatoes which were French fries cooked in a basic way. Service was mostly self serve (coffee) and you pay when you order. I plan to stop by again to try some of the lunch specials. Breakfast and lunch only.

First visit for lunch and would definitely go again. Started with the spicy, tangy salsa and mediocre tortilla chips…they felt a little stale. I had the Mole lunch special with Mexican rice and black beans. All were very tasty! Servers were friendly and attentive. It’s a small space and I can see it getting crowded or having a wait. Decoration is basic and casual, but not quite comfortable. Good food for the price!

It’s a nice small restaurant. The front part is for a few parties of 2/3 people. The back/side seats two tables of 6 each max. The back small patio seats two. The food was great, it reminds me of Mexican/Mexico home cooking! My only complaint would be the chips served with the salsa. The chips were not good at all I did not care for them, they tasted almost stale. The service was excellent our server was very nice & attentive, she had black framed glasses a younger woman (didn’t catch her name). My kids ate all their food which is surprising because they are very picky about their food if it doesn’t taste good they won’t eat it. Overall when in town we would come back.

The cheese enchiladas are the perfect kind of cheesy. Perfectly melted and mild and almost melts in your mouth. Add a bit of salsa on for that perfect kick. The potato enchiladas are also very good with the chipotle sauce although I wish it had just a little more sauce.

The restaurant is very charming like eating at your abuela’s casa. No frills just smiles. They don’t serve alcohol here so be ready to drink Mexican coke!

Update: they are BYOB so the coke is going to be replaced by a six pack!

Sweet little Mexican restaurant – we had the chicken mole and the tacos al pastor, both were excellent. The corn tortillas were thick, warm, and handmade. Black beans were nice, and we tried an unfamiliar side – fideo, which was like a mexican spiced spaghetti soup. Tasty, but not easy to eat with either a fork or a spoon.
