The birria ramen was rich, flavorful, and comforting, and the tacos were packed with flavor. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The rice and beans were also done perfectly and complemented the meal well.
Overall, the hospitality and food made this a memorable visit.
the restaurant is decorated excellently; every inch of it is adorned with eye-catching hues, as well as interesting mexican cultural paraphernalia. the waitress was very attentive towards my needs and sweet. overall, one of the best dining experiences i have ever had and i will most definitely be returning! <3
This was our first time here, we love Birria and should stick to the places we already love, but when you advertise “BEST BIRRIA” we had to give it a try. While this is the best Birria meat we’ve had, how it was assembled is not what we ordered.
Like I said, first time, the ladies weren’t welcoming and the cashier didn’t seem to even want to take our orders (I should have known then my order was going to be messed up), so asking questions was difficult for her because she didn’t want to do her job even as simple as answering questions about the menu. We had a family of 4 so I was trying to make sure we ordered enough for all of us. I asked her specifically about how it was served and she said yes so I went ahead and ordered. After traveling home, and opening the boxes, not only were there items from the meal missing, but it was not the Birria tacos that everyone is fading over now.
I should have known how inattentive she was that my order was going to be wrong and missing items, but as long as she got back to her phone I hope she’s happy. WHY ARE YOU IN SERVICE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SERVE?
Edited to add: While waiting for our food I asked her if we could get chips and salsa while waiting and she said “you have to pay for those”… I now see other reviewers who enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Words of advice, find a different profession ma’am.
First things first: why “La China”? Walking in, the name had me curious, but stepping inside, I was greeted by a lively atmosphere and vibrant Puebla-inspired décor everywhere. Bright, clean, and super welcoming—definitely a spot that makes you feel right at home from the get-go.
The staff? Absolutely delightful. They treated us to complimentary chips and salsa along with water, a nice touch that’s become standard in the area.
We kicked things off with fried plantains served alongside sour cream and beans. A solid start. For our main dishes, my wife got adventurous with the birria ramen—yes, ramen at a taqueria. An intriguing concept. While it seemed like instant noodles made a guest appearance, the bowl came generously loaded with smoky, fatty birria. She enjoyed it, rating it a comfortable 4 out of 5—good, but not something she’d rush back for.
My tacos, though, left something to be desired. The steak tacos tasted like steamed or boiled beef—oddly dry, missing that flavorful char you expect from a good taco. The tripe taco was a crunchy affair—deep-fried and crisp—completely different from the tender grilled or smoked style I’m used to. Not my favorite approach; both tacos were overly dry for my palate. I’d give the steak tacos a hesitant 3 out of 5, and the tripe taco a disappointing 2 out of 5. The Mexican rice alongside? Flavorful, but bone-dry, giving strong reheated, day-old vibes.
Overall, La China Poblana Taqueria lands at around 3 stars for me. Loved the friendly atmosphere and enthusiastic staff, but the food was hit or miss. Maybe next time, but definitely needs some tweaks.
However, as we started eating, we quickly realized the food was pretty basic. The two “steak” tacos were actually just lengua, and the so-called “steak” tacos turned out to be minced-up ground beef that was dry and tasteless. The chicken tacos were also extremely dry. We all took a bite and were really disappointed.
When it came time to pay, the waitress told us she’d bring the check, but then disappeared for another 10 minutes. During that time, she served two other tables, walking past ours at least five times. When she finally brought the check, she just went off to serve another table again, ignoring us and not taking the payment.
Overall, the experience was underwhelming, and we won’t be returning. A word of advice: double-check your order, and if you’re hoping for steak, be prepared for dry ground beef.
