The tea tastes good. Apricot tarte tastes fine, but I beg to differ for the choux a la creme cause that’s one of the best I’ve ever had. But the service is really slow, and the counter for patisserie doesn’t have a cashier, so it’s a hassle to make the payment.
The garden is good to spend some time during in nice weather.
They also have a souvenir shop. I bought the cider. There’s one cider that is labeled as “medaille d’or” and the regular one with 3 euros difference on price. I asked the seller what’s the difference between those two taste-wise, but she couldn’t even explain. My friends agreed that the taste difference for both bottles is hardly noticeable and most likely the same tho there’s 3 euros difference on price.
We received a cold bread which seems to come directly from the fridge. Beer wasn’t cold for a sunny day.
The charcuterie was a nice plate.
a) promptly whisked the plate away
b) got the overall manager involved who wanted to see the plate, which we could not show her because the staff had taken it away (though fortunately we had already taken a picture)
c) claimed that it was an open kitchen and (I quote) “the wind must have blown it off the street and into the food.” It was not a windy day.
They also seemed to think that they could placate us by giving us free macarons, which was obnoxious because they were from a plate at the counter that was already free and they sent over only 3 macarons for a group of 7. (And they were not particularly good macarons, either.) I wish anyone in my group could speak French, because it was clear that they were trying to wriggle out of any potential consequences by playing the “these guys are dumb Americans” card.
But really? Did they seriously think any of us were stupid enough to believe that the wind blew a cigarette butt into our food? As if.
0/10, do not recommend. If you’re in Giverny, find another restaurant or bring your own lunch with you.
