This is my favorite date spot to go with my wife. No other Cuban restaurant I’ve been too in over a decade captures the spirit of the culture like La Cañita does (put some respect on that ñ ) . The food, superb offerings with a modern twist to some dishes but if you want something more traditional, they got you. Happy hour menu is outstanding , my only recommendation to the spot is to add some healthier options , most of the happy hour menu is fried. The service; upscale , professional, you don’t find service and personality like these folks even at Capital Grille. Our bartender got up and sang which was awesome ! Now… the atmosphere … the live music is soooooo authentic and just makes the entire experience perfection . You’re gonna pay a little more than most Cuban spots but it’s more than worth it because you feel the difference from all aspects of the dining experience . Local or tourist – this is the spot . Side note: my wife is a Pescatarian (fish and veggies) and she says it’s a great spot if you are vegetarian .

I went for the second time because my first experience was not bad at all. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same this time. I decided to order a couple of strawberry martinis, which were not all that good, but drinkable. Once I received my check/tab, I noticed that I was charged an extra $2.00, for the Martini mix and an extra $2.00, for the tiny piece of strawberry , on the glass. “Totally Rediculous.” When I asked the young lady serving us about it, she responded: The Martini mix is extra and the Strawberry , is also charged extra for the flavor. She volunteered to call the manager for me. So, I decided to pay the extra charge and will not be returning, due to such a Rediculous act.

BTW, I do have to say, the band plays excellent.

She was very attentive and sweet and explained all the different plates and was very patient and polite. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will come back soon

La Canita has been on my list of restaurants to try, given its connection to Michelle Bernstein and I really wanted to like it as I have never been disappointed by her before. But there is a first time for everything, as I was disappointed in several ways. We had the fish ceviche, which was excellent, especially given that this wasn’t a Peruvian or Seafood restaurant. The fish was firm and fresh and the leche de tigre sauce was perfect. The Lechon Asado was a huge disappointment, and maybe the worst that I have ever had. Instead of moros, it was served with boiled yuca, with no substitutions. The pork was soggy and tasteless and lacked seasoning. The mojo de ajo was maybe watered down by the water from the boiled yuca. The only good thing in the dish was the chicharones, that was excellent. The cocktails were also hit and miss. The Lychee Martini was pretty good, but the mojito was more bitter than anything else. Service from our waitress was not very good. She took our order and then spent all of her time with a large table celebrating an 80th birthday. She didn’t even glance in our direction as she was passing by. Among other things, the Ceviche came and no hot sauce, as requested. The only thing that prevented the service from being worse, was that the other servers did a pretty good job of covering for each other, as they could sense our frustration and tried to help out. Other tables seemed to have better service than we did. The atmosphere was very good and there is a live band that plays Cuban music after 6:30pm daily, and we had a front row seat. I’m willing to give the restaurant another try with different dishes and a different server, and hope to not be disappointed again.

We had such a great experience at La Cañita, and a big part of that was because of our waiter, Juliette. I have dietary restrictions, and she was truly outstanding—very thorough, informative, and attentive. She made sure my food was prepared safely and that nothing was cross-contaminated, which gave me so much peace of mind.

The atmosphere at La Cañita was also incredible—great music, a fun vibe, and an overall amazing energy. Plus, their happy hour from 5–8 PM was such a nice bonus!

Thank you so much, Juliette, for taking such great care of us. We’ll definitely be back!

I’ll start with the atmosphere the decor at La Cañita is really beautiful. I loved the overall vibe and the location. That said, the table placement feels a little awkward, and the restaurant is extremely loud, which makes it hard to have a conversation. They do have a live band, which is a nice touch, but it definitely adds to the noise level.
I made a reservation online, and nowhere did it mention a two hour table limit. I think they’re trying very hard to deliver a “luxury” dining experience, but being in the middle of suburban Kendall, it feels a bit forced. If I had known about the strict time limit, I probably wouldn’t have booked. It doesn’t feel great to be rushed when you’re paying higher end prices especially when you’re there to enjoy the experience.
Our server was amazing truly so kind and attentive. Unfortunately, much of the rest of the staff came across as having off putting attitudes. They seemed annoyed or overwhelmed. To be fair, they did have multiple large parties that night, so maybe it was just an off day.
The food overall was tasty. The croquetas weren’t especially good but we enjoyed the empanadas. The only dish that fell short was the ropa vieja. The meat was in large chunks rather than nicely shredded, and it lacked the rich, authentic flavor you’d expect. It also came with a lot of rice and beans but barely any meat, which didn’t feel worth the price.
Overall because of the high prices, rushed experience, and inconsistent service, I don’t think I would return even though there were some highlights like the oxtail lasagna.

We had a delightful dinner with great service. Our server, Daniela was spectacular. Her attention to all our needs exceeded expectations. This place has a great vibe with a 3 man band playing old school Cuban mambo and salsa. Hemingway martini was off the chain. We will be back. Arroz con pollo was delicious as were the ham croquetas in fig jam.

A courteous, friendly and professional staff. As you are at door, hostess, managers are attentive to giving friendly great professional service. Last Friday, evening I had used, mens restroom, I had left hanging from door, my waist bag, with valuables. After 10-15 minutes that I had returned, back to area I was sitting, I noticed my bag, was not at my seat. So I remembered, I had brought it, into bathroom, after noticing it was not in there, I proceeded to go to front, asking for assistance from manager. Great news, was my bag was, found brought back, to hostess podium, in covert, safe. Besides this experience, I do go, every other Friday, happy hour & bartende Nelson, along w/ waiters, are always helpful, courteous and service oriented, satisfaction of customer. Awesome, delusciousmess and fun, place.
