Michelin star BBQ?! Of course I have to try it! I came around 4pm on a Thursday afternoon – no lines at all, but, unfortunately they were out of the brisket (which is what I really wanted to try). Pork ribs were great! Very peppery on the rub. The jaelpeno sausage was amazing! Brisket chili was bomb. Mac and cheese was pretty banging. The chipotle cole slaw I could have done with out. They dont sell beer there but they give you up to 2 free beers with your meal and they have several to choose from… pilsner, ipa, hazy ipa. BBQ tends to be pretty expensive but I felt what I paid for my plate was reasonable (especially with the 2 free beers). Great place to check out, great bbq. Honorable mention to the brewery across the street, Blue Owl Brewing.

The food at this Austin BBQ is absolutely delicious everything we tried was amazing! The service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is really pleasant. There can be a wait, but we were lucky, we waited about 25 minutes max. The way they let people in gradually by tables is very organized, which I really appreciated.
Once inside, you place your order and then find a seat. We tried the brisket, brisket sandwich, pork, BBQ ribs, and BBQ pork, they were all incredible! The meat was so tender it fell right off the bone, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, the ribs were already sold out, but I’ve heard they’re amazing and I’ll definitely come back to try them.
The bathrooms are fun, and the overall vibe is great. I was lucky enough to meet the owner, a Masterchef, who is a wonderful and very friendly person, she even took a photo with us!
I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return. 10/10, 100% recommended!

Shorter line than expected before opening (we assumed it was due to the holidays) but line expanded ten fold within 10 minutes of opening. However, even before the restaurant opened, there was note on the door indicating that the brisket was already sold out! There are two lines (one to buy and eat, the other for takeout orders including those orders that were ordered several days in advance). The ribs and pulled pork was good but ah no brisket. We did get free alcohol (three cups of beer on tap) and the beers (IPAs and Pilsner) were all excellent. Parking is limited; small parking lot, and then street parking. There are EDPs in the neighborhood (one man started to curse at everyone he walked by) so just be on alert.
Bonus point: someone told me that the art work inside the bathrooms were good, so I had to see them. No kidding. It’s very good art and I felt no more need to go to an art gallery, the wall murals were that good.

La Barbecue in Austin absolutely lived up to the hype — and then some. Every bite had that “wow” factor: bold smoke, seasoning that pops, and meat that stayed unbelievably moist and tender all the way through. It wasn’t just good barbecue… it was the kind that makes you pause mid-bite and look at the table like, “Okay, this is the real deal.”
And I don’t say that lightly. I’ve made the rounds through some serious BBQ territory — Lockhart, Fort Worth, Weslaco, Llano, Dallas, New Braunfels — and La Barbecue still stands out as the best I’ve had. The balance was perfect: deep flavor without being heavy, smoke without bitterness, and that melt-in-your-mouth texture you hope for but rarely get consistently.
If you’re in Austin and you love barbecue, this place isn’t optional. It’s a must.

Went on a Friday about 2:30, and it was less busy than usual so I got served right away! I ordered brisket, pork ribs, chipotle sausage (house made), black beans and shells with cheese. The brisket and pork ribs were insane! I 100% recommend. You can’t find brisket any better anywhere in the world! The pork ribs were absolutely delicious and the most tender I’ve ever had, but hold up a sec the best pork ribs in the world are in Pekins, Mississippi. No disrespect whatsoever. The house made chipotle sausage was fire! Black beans and shells with cheese were very good no complaints at all. I would have ordered a beef rib but they were unfortunately sold out. I highly recommend this place, and I’m super glad I dropped in, from Illinois. I’ve been to Austin several times and have had Terry Blacks, Franklin BBQ, and now La BBQ. Still working on Interstellar and Leroy and Lewis and that will top out my belief as the Top 5 in Austin. So far, I give La BBQ the top spot that I’ve enjoyed the most, and hope to will sometime to have another round of bbq. Loved it!!!

Service: arrived at opening with a line 15 people long; it took more than 40 minutes to get inside. How is that possible? Because, once inside, you’ll find employees rather unconcerned you are there. Dismissive at best. Overall, unacceptable for bbq when the norm is friendly and efficient lovers of meat and the process.
Atmosphere: it’s neat, but nothing special. You’d expect no expense to be spared, but when you arrive and stand in line you see every expense was. Painted 2×4’s nailed together hold up the old porch. You notice while standing on dirt. 2 single bathrooms. Little room to move.
Food: the highlight, minus the beans as said. Brisket, turkey, pulled pork, and shells and cheese were all incredible. The sauces were brilliant. The lack of standard pickles (at all) or bread (for a charge) or tea set the experience back a bit but not enough to draw off the five stars for food.
Conclusion: (see 50ish other bbq reviews) this isn’t the best bbq in Texas, much less Austin. It isn’t worth a long wait. However, the foundation is there for this to reach both of those lofty heights. The pitmaster is obviously highly skilled as the meats were truly amazing. Some small changes in atmosphere, menu, and employee training would up La BBQ to 5 stars inside a week.

Firstly, you get a free 12 oz draft beer! We got the Pilsner which was refreshing and delicious.
We showed up at 11:30 on a Saturday and waited for a little over an hour. They sold out of Beef Ribs and Jalapeño sausage before we made it to the front. We were only bummed about the sausage.
We ordered brisket, Pork ribs, chipotle sausage, shell n cheese and chipotle slaw
We were excited about the Chipotle slaw but it was very salty and not good! The shells n cheese were tasty and saucy. The brisket was insane as were the pork ribs. Meat is melt-in-your-mouth! The sausage was underwhelming and may have been better if it was the jalapeño.
The atmosphere is great because it’s not crowded. You wait for a table but when you get it. It is really great to not feel rushed or like you need to leave. There is enough room for all with inside and outside seating.
All in all, it’s good! There are better places with overall better food in my opinion when considering the sides. Hard to turn down free beer and delicious meat though!

Currently my 2nd favorite BBQ, but favorite in Austin! You can NOT get better pork ribs than La Barbecue, they are phenomenal! The turkey is very juicy and flavorful and the brisket is very good also. They have good bread, really good Mac n cheese and solid potato salad. You can sit inside or outside, the atmosphere is okay, but its a BBQ joint so thats somewhat to be expected. Got there about 30 minutes after opening and waited about 45 minutes but its worth it! Can’t wait to go back! Just wish they had sweet tea! It is Texas BBQ amd for me thats a big plus/minus. Nice people!

Incredible barbecue! we got the sliced brisket, ribs, regular and jalepeno sausage. The ribs were so tender and just fell off the bone. The brisket had a nice fat layer. Our favorite side was the Mac and cheese. We added the pickles and jalepeno to the potato salad to give it a little more flavor. The kimchi was super spicy and was more peppers than cabbage so not traditional kimchi. Definitely order ahead to save time otherwise you’ll have to wait in line. We ordered about a week in advance and just walked in, they asked if we wanted to eat there and then brought it out to a table 5 minutes later. The staff was very firnedly and helpful!
