Location is great, easy to park and not as crowded as the center. Chalupas were tasty, keep in mind they are small over fried tortillas with pork and source plus pork fat was used to fry them, so it’s not healthy at all. The persino 6 small chalupas that for 90 pesos is a bit expensive for Mexico

Great local food! This is right outside the Rosewood Hotel alongside 4-5 other restaurants. I came here for lunch in a group of 12.

There’s no air conditioning but the breeze comes through. We got the typical traditional Puebla dishes –

* chile en nogada (stuffed poblano pepper in nut sauce and pomegranate)
* cecina (thin, marinated salted beef)
* green enchiladas
* caldo (soup) with chili
* mole with pork (cerdo)
* chalupas combinadas (chalupas with red salsa, green salsa, mole)

The bread with avocado and cheese is not complimentary – I think it was like 60 pesos per order, and they brought out 2 orders without asking. Deducting a star for that and the ambiance, or lack thereof.

75 pesos for 2 Palomas (citrus juice with alcohol and salt rim) or 2 sangrias during happy hour. Yes to the Palomas, even though it was made with lemon and not grapefruit juice. The agua fresca of lemon and chia seeds was refreshing too.

Now the food is excellent. I don’t think I had a favorite. They’re all very different. The only thing I wouldn’t get again are the chalupas. Fried dough doesn’t appeal too much to me.
The cecina was too salty for me, but I still enjoyed the flavor.
The sweetness of the Chile en Nogada threw off my friends, but I liked it. Reminded me of Persian dishes like fesenjan.
The mole was sweeter than I’m used to but was delicious, and the soup and enchiladas were great, too.

The service is slow but the grandpa owner is the third generation owner whose grandma established the restaurant – and his grandchildren currently work at the restaurant, so 5 generations have been pouring into this establishment. Hearing the story makes it a part of the experience.

So yeah! Recommended for food – perhaps even more so at dinner time when it’s not so hot outside 🙂

I took my brother and his wife to La Abuelita a few days ago, and they loved it. So much so, they went back yesterday on their own. The owner recognized them and greeted them by name.
A place to love!

Amazing food, wonderful people. Try the chalupas and the mole. I had such a great time talking to the people here. They are very kind and you can tell how much effort/love they put into their food.

The very best mole poblano en el MUNDO! If you are in Puebla, this is a must! Even better than the food is Abuelita! She gave me the warmest welcome I have ever experienced at a restaurant. Her goal, is simply for you to enjoy your food and your experience. If you go here, it will be impossible not to! The bread ( torta de agua) with avacado and cheese is delicious. She is the 4th generation providing this amazing family food and you feel the history while you are there with the flavors, the pictures, the atmosphere, and abuelita. This is the highest reccommendation I have ever given for a restaurant. Go and eat!

I’ve never tried before something like the food in this place!!! I loved the “pollo con mole”!!! You should try the “chalupitas” and ask for a piece of cheese!!! This is the best restaurant you will find in Puebla.
