In the heart of Wynwood, KYU is known for bold, wood-fired cooking and Asian-inspired flavors that keep the room buzzing from brunch through late night. Signature dishes like our iconic Korean Fried Chicken and famous cinnamon roll have made KYU a neighborhood staple, while craft cocktails and a high-energy dining room set the tone. Widely considered home to the best brunch in Wynwood, KYU has expanded beyond Miami with locations in New York City and Las Vegas, and is set to open in Los Angeles in summer 2026.
Modern Asian-style eatery offering grilled meats & sashimi, plus cocktails.

The biggest issue is the acoustics and layout. The space is overwhelmingly loud, with sound bouncing everywhere—voices layered on top of each other to the point where holding a conversation feels exhausting. The background music is barely perceptible, tables are packed extremely close together, and there’s virtually no sense of privacy or intimacy. The result is a chaotic, overstimulating atmosphere that completely strips away the coziness and enjoyment of a proper dining experience.
This is especially noticeable when compared to KYU New York, where the ambiance is darker, more intimate, better spaced, and balanced with DJ music that actually enhances the experience. Miami, by contrast, feels acoustically uncalibrated and visually flat.
That said, the food is still phenomenal, and it’s the sole reason to endure the setting. The beef short rib was outstanding, deeply flavorful, and perfectly executed. We also loved the smoked bone marrow, crispy tuna rice, and the Japanese sweet potato, which remains incredible and consistent with other locations. KYU’s culinary execution continues to be top-tier across the board.
Service, however, was mediocre at best. It felt rushed and understaffed, and we often had to actively look for our server. On a busy Friday night, that may explain part of it, but expectations should still be higher. One unfortunate moment involved a drink being spilled on the table—accidents happen, but there was no offer to replace or comp the drink, which was disappointing and avoidable.
In summary:
* Food: Excellent, consistent, and memorable
* Ambience: Loud, crowded, poor acoustics, no intimacy
* Service: Rushed, inattentive, lacking recovery on mistakes
KYU Miami is still worth visiting for the food alone, but the atmosphere severely detracts from the experience. Personally, I wouldn’t return to the Miami location unless something changes—I’d gladly choose the New York City location instead. For now, this earns 3 out of 5 stars.
The restaurant is located in the heart of Wynwood, so there’s some good vibes in and out of the restaurant, especially if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, unless you want to park with the Valet though, finding public parking in the area is pretty difficult.
Having said that, the food is awesome!
We got: spicy tuna crispy rice, hamachi crispy rice, hamachi crudo, tuna tataki, pork gyozas and a vegetable Thai rice, all of these to share between 3 people. Besides the rice that comes in a good shareable size, the other plates are quite small, so they work as appetizers bites – even though we were pretty full after these, you might want to get something else as well if you are on the hungry side.
The quality of the fish was impeccable, fresh and incredibly tasty. All of these dishes were. Personally I loved the hamachi crudo and the tuna tataki the best, the crispy rice ones were pretty basic but still very good indeed.
Last note is that the restaurant gets quite loud between the tables and the music, not impossible to talk but a bit too loud I think, doesn’t really ruin it though, the food is worth it.
The coconut cake looked fantastic but sadly I was too full to try it. Next time.
Starting with service;
as professional as spouse to be
Ambiance; just perfect
Food ; starting with appetizers and all of our orders just perfect recipes and balanced finish from kitchen. “Special thanks for kitchen “
You’ll have a great meal, no doubt, but for the price you’ll pay, there are plenty of options in Miami to choose from. Top shelf options!
Beef short rib, that used to be in the $50’s, is now $88 (keep in mind, $88 with 20% tip is $105.60!), a simple roasted cauliflower is $28, their drinks are $26!!! That’s $31.20 with tip (CRAZY!). I got a $2.00 upcharge for ordering a simple old fashioned.
It’s going to be a while before I go back…if you’re visiting Miami: look around, there are much better options, in much nicer areas…even Michelin starred restaurants at the same or lower prices than Kyu.
