Without question, KYU is my favorite restaurant in Miami. Every visit confirms it.The beef short rib is absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly cooked, rich, tender, and packed with flavor. It is the kind of dish you think about days later. The Japanese sweet potato is what dreams are made of. Easily one of the best sides in the city.Eddie, our server, was top notch. Professional, attentive, and genuinely engaged without being overbearing. His service made the entire experience even better.I have zero complaints. The consistency, quality, and atmosphere are outstanding every time. Already looking forward to the next visit.

The food and service were exceptional. Ambience was welcoming. We were politely welcomed and had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Our waiter Andrew guided our menu for the night and it did not disappoint! We had the short ribs, Korean fried chicken, cauliflower side and tuna fried rice. The cauliflower was an elusive flavor, a surprise that was not expected. The short ribs were fall of the bone succulent. Definitely a wonderful experience.

KYU used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Wynwood—if not the favorite—before the renovation. Unfortunately, after multiple visits post-renovation, this experience confirmed that while the food remains excellent, the dining environment in Miami has significantly declined.

The biggest issue is the acoustics and layout. The space is overwhelmingly loud, with sound bouncing everywhere—voices layered on top of each other to the point where holding a conversation feels exhausting. The background music is barely perceptible, tables are packed extremely close together, and there’s virtually no sense of privacy or intimacy. The result is a chaotic, overstimulating atmosphere that completely strips away the coziness and enjoyment of a proper dining experience.

This is especially noticeable when compared to KYU New York, where the ambiance is darker, more intimate, better spaced, and balanced with DJ music that actually enhances the experience. Miami, by contrast, feels acoustically uncalibrated and visually flat.

That said, the food is still phenomenal, and it’s the sole reason to endure the setting. The beef short rib was outstanding, deeply flavorful, and perfectly executed. We also loved the smoked bone marrow, crispy tuna rice, and the Japanese sweet potato, which remains incredible and consistent with other locations. KYU’s culinary execution continues to be top-tier across the board.

Service, however, was mediocre at best. It felt rushed and understaffed, and we often had to actively look for our server. On a busy Friday night, that may explain part of it, but expectations should still be higher. One unfortunate moment involved a drink being spilled on the table—accidents happen, but there was no offer to replace or comp the drink, which was disappointing and avoidable.

In summary:

* Food: Excellent, consistent, and memorable

* Ambience: Loud, crowded, poor acoustics, no intimacy

* Service: Rushed, inattentive, lacking recovery on mistakes

KYU Miami is still worth visiting for the food alone, but the atmosphere severely detracts from the experience. Personally, I wouldn’t return to the Miami location unless something changes—I’d gladly choose the New York City location instead. For now, this earns 3 out of 5 stars.

Excellent place for a nice Korean fusion dinner. The tuna starter and Korean BBQ wings were fantastic. Never had wings like these and were loaded with flavor. Not to spicy at all and perfevt amount.

KYU Miami absolutely blew us away. Every dish was vibrant, balanced, and incredibly fresh, the kind of flavors that make you stop in the middle of a conversation. The service was warm and efficient, and the vibe is energetic without feeling rushed. My only complaint? I wish they would open a location in Palm Beach so it is closer to home. Until then, KYU is well worth the drive. Do not miss out on this culinary experience. You will be talking about it long after the last bite.

Very nice place!

The restaurant is located in the heart of Wynwood, so there’s some good vibes in and out of the restaurant, especially if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, unless you want to park with the Valet though, finding public parking in the area is pretty difficult.

Having said that, the food is awesome!
We got: spicy tuna crispy rice, hamachi crispy rice, hamachi crudo, tuna tataki, pork gyozas and a vegetable Thai rice, all of these to share between 3 people. Besides the rice that comes in a good shareable size, the other plates are quite small, so they work as appetizers bites – even though we were pretty full after these, you might want to get something else as well if you are on the hungry side.

The quality of the fish was impeccable, fresh and incredibly tasty. All of these dishes were. Personally I loved the hamachi crudo and the tuna tataki the best, the crispy rice ones were pretty basic but still very good indeed.

Last note is that the restaurant gets quite loud between the tables and the music, not impossible to talk but a bit too loud I think, doesn’t really ruin it though, the food is worth it.

The coconut cake looked fantastic but sadly I was too full to try it. Next time.

We visited during Miami Spice, which was 2 months ago, and I’m planning to return soon. Our waiter made great recommendations and was very knowledgeable and friendly. The drinks are delicious and the food was superb. Make sure you save room for dessert!

This used to be my favorite restaurant in Miami, and although the food has been consistent since day one, I feel they’ve become abusive with their prices and 20% forced tip policy (they will probably call it a “service charge”).

You’ll have a great meal, no doubt, but for the price you’ll pay, there are plenty of options in Miami to choose from. Top shelf options!

Beef short rib, that used to be in the $50’s, is now $88 (keep in mind, $88 with 20% tip is $105.60!), a simple roasted cauliflower is $28, their drinks are $26!!! That’s $31.20 with tip (CRAZY!). I got a $2.00 upcharge for ordering a simple old fashioned.

It’s going to be a while before I go back…if you’re visiting Miami: look around, there are much better options, in much nicer areas…even Michelin starred restaurants at the same or lower prices than Kyu.
