Nice place, but the service was meh. I just couldn’t believe the poor quality of the food. I really hope I don’t get food poisoning. I didn’t throw up in the restaurant out of decency in front of my friends, who also didn’t like the food, but no one had the guts to say it.

The quality of the fish was very low. The nigiri was warm and dry, with no flavor at all. The maki tasted like supermarket-quality sushi. I don’t understand how this place is so expensive.

The “A5 wagyu” was definitely not wagyu—what a scam. It tasted like a choice cut of steak that wasn’t cooked properly, and it looked gray. The eel was overly fatty and tasted greasy and oily—disgusting.

Never again.

Alright foodies—if you’re looking for a date-night knockout with serious flavor flex, let me put Kuu Japanese Restaurant firmly on your radar.
Tucked away at 947 Dessert Rd, Suite A180, Houston, TX 77024, Kuu is the kind of place that feels like a discovery the moment you walk in. Upscale without being stuffy, intimate without being quiet-weird—this is prime territory for impressing a date, celebrating something special, or just treating yourself like you deserve (because… you do).
Let’s start where every great meal should: the garlic edamame. These aren’t your basic, steam-and-salt pods. They come out glossy, fragrant, and absolutely coated in garlicky goodness. Warm, savory, slightly addictive—the kind of appetizer that disappears fast and makes you consider ordering a second round “just in case.” Pro tip: order it. Don’t think. Just do it.
Now, the star that deserves a standing ovation: the seared Wagyu salad. This dish alone justifies the hype. Perfectly seared Wagyu beef—rich, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth tender—paired with fresh greens and a balance of flavors that feels intentional and elevated. It’s luxurious without being heavy, bold without overpowering. The kind of plate that makes you pause mid-bite and say, “Okay… wow.”
The overall vibe at Kuu is effortlessly upscale. Low lighting, sleek design, and a calm energy that invites you to slow down and actually enjoy your meal (and the company you’re with). It’s an ideal date-night spot—romantic, polished, and just cool enough to feel special without trying too hard.
For food lovers who appreciate quality ingredients, thoughtful presentation, and flavors that actually deliver, Kuu hits all the right notes. This is not a rush-in, rush-out kind of restaurant. It’s a linger, sip, savor, and remember kind of place.
Bottom line: Kuu Japanese Restaurant is a Houston gem—perfect for foodies, date nights, and anyone craving an elevated Japanese dining experience done right. Go hungry. Go curious. And don’t skip the garlic edamame.

Houston at Its Best: Dining Experience!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting an authentic Japanese restaurant in Houston, and it truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment you enter, the ambiance captivates you with its elegant decor and dim lighting, creating a romantic atmosphere that’s perfect for any occasion.

The food was nothing short of impeccable. Vy, our waitress was very knowledgeable and explain every dishes, she was wonderful ! Each dish was beautifully presented, reflecting the authenticity of Japanese cuisine, with ingredients that seemed to have traveled straight from Japan. The attention to detail in both flavor and presentation was remarkable.

I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to my friends and will definitely be returning for another memorable dining experience!

Here for work and found this place. Food was great!! Fast to come out. Lunch business bento box with the black cod is the best! So much food for $25. I also got the shoshito peppers which were good too. Slow to bring out check but other than that, service was impeccable.

An Unforgettable Evening Thanks to Mario
My husband and I are always on the lookout for the perfect date night spot, and KUU absolutely delivered. While we’re passionate about great food, we’ve learned that exceptional service can elevate an entire dining experience—and that’s exactly what Mario provided.
From the moment we were seated, Mario’s attentiveness and genuine warmth set the tone for the evening. What truly impressed us was his extensive knowledge of the menu. He didn’t just recite descriptions; he offered thoughtful recommendations based on our preferences and answered every question with expertise and enthusiasm. You could tell he takes real pride in what he does.
Mario struck that perfect balance of being attentive without hovering, checking in at just the right moments throughout our meal. His professionalism and personable nature made us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. It’s rare to find someone who so clearly loves what they do, and it showed in every interaction.
The food at KUU was excellent, but Mario’s service truly made our date night special. We left not only satisfied but genuinely excited to return. If you’re dining at KUU, do yourself a favor and request Mario—you won’t be disappointed.
Thank you, Mario, for making our evening memorable!

I come here all the time and it never disappoints! The food is consistently incredible, but what really sets this place apart is the people. The manager Raymond always goes above and beyond to make sure every detail is perfect—he truly cares about the guests’ experience.

The bar is also a highlight! Vi is absolutely amazing—so precise with her drinks and you can taste the quality in every sip. I especially love the lycheetini; it’s always fresh, balanced, and perfectly consistent every single time. All staff from hostess to bartender is amazing.

It’s rare to find a restaurant where both the food and service are this dependable. Whether you’re coming in for a special meal or just want a great drink at the bar, this is the place to be. I ordered sous vide wagyu last time I dined in here!! So yummy. Happy hour is amazing

We were so excited to check out a new sushi place but unfortunately this was a major disappointment!! The service was very lackluster and with only 3 tables. The service was extremely slow and we had to continually ask questions to get help about the various menu options. We both emphasized it was our first time visiting here and the response back was okay. (That should have been a sign)

Dining out is our biggest bill because we enjoy the experience, food and fellowship. This experience was extremely dry and with such a long a wait with empty plates and drinks, decided to not order any more and go home.

The search for the best sushi restaurant will continue and would probably not come back unless a friend/relative selects this establishment as a preselected restaurant.

We went here for restaurant weeks and it was so freaking good!
You have to try the rice pudding. It’s like rice pudding married creme brulee.
Easily the best meal I’ve had in a while and what a great experience.

The lobster pasta had a great deal of flavor. The pasta was tender but still had a body with a rich light sauce. The lobster was tender and perfectly cooked. The sea bass was delicious with a very light miso sauce but held a lot of flavor.

The meal was enjoyable and worth the visit.
