We were looking for a good local spot for some grub. We got a few musubi, loco moco and garlic chicken. MAC salad was very good, full of flavor! Loco loco and musubi were both very good. Just missing a lil Sriracha!

We were on our way back to our place of stay after visiting the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. It was late evening. Kurtistown Cafe was our dinner stop. They serve Burgers, Sandwiches, Plates …. We ordered plate of Chicken, Fish , Eggs along with Rice. The Chicken and Eggs were well made. Fish could have been better. Value for Money cafe

Went to stop by here on the way home to Hilo after a long day and it was fantastic! The food was so tasty and delicious. I got the Korean chicken and my partner got the Korean combo plate. Both were delicious and the macaroni salad that came with it hit the spot. 10/10 food I am for sure going back. The atmosphere is a bit lackluster just because you are on the side of the road at a gas station but other than that AMAZING!

Driving towards Hilo and we stopped in Kurtistown to get gas. I noticed this joint while we were here and it looked great so we decided to stop in.

Came in at around 9:30 AM on a Saturday and they weren’t busy. The guy who took our order was nice.

I got the French Toast breakfast with Portuguese sausage and two eggs with an additional side of bacon. Overall, everything was great! The French toast was toasted perfectly and flavorful, the sausage was really good and the eggs were cooked nicely. It was also quite inexpensive too! Only $10.49 for my meal! Honestly the cheapest meal we had on the Big Island!

Overall, this was a great stop! If you’re driving towards Hilo and in the market for something cheap and fast, Kurtistown Cafe is the place to go! I will easily come back.

Tasty and affordable, with a very friendly staff member who took our orders. I got the teriyaki burger, which I thought was good, and the fries were on point. I tried some of the Korean chicken and I really liked that as well. There was a dude trying to give away kittens outside the building, hope they go to a good home, but I feel it is the wrong place to do that at.

Breakfast platter and breakfast omelet were good! $21 for both meals. If you’re looking for a quick breakfast at reasonable prices, this is your place! Friendly service!

Got the BBQ chicken plate which said teriyaki chicken but had almost no teriyaki flavor or marinade. Good portion, just wish the food had more flavor. Took about 10-15 minutes for the food.

Delicious local flavors. We had the egg sandwich. You have your choice of meat. I had bacon, my husband had Spam. Our son had the egg scramble with a side of hash browns. Local favorite.

My favorite poke on the big island so far. We liked it so much we had to come back again the next day!

Food:
Spicy ahi: 5/5 – We loved this. It’s the perfect amount of food and every part was delicious. Generous amount of poke and the right ratio of rice and fish. The cucumber salad was nicely salty and I liked the addition of dragonfruit. The miso soup that’s included is a nice touch too!

Garlic shoyu ahi: 4.5/5 – We also really liked this, we just slightly preferred the spicy ahi.

Service:
5/5! Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The lovely lady preparing the poke even gave us a sample of another poke since we couldn’t decide.

Follow my adventures!

I’m really confused. We came in at 8:15, they close at 9. We asked if we could order, they said yes, but continued to stack all chairs on tables so there was no where to eat except our car in the rain. We went to order Korean chicken and they said “we don’t have that”, which is totally fine, but it was met with the most intense stare and no apology or suggestion for an alternative. We ended up just leaving because it was clear we weren’t wanted there. Please adjust your hours if you don’t want to have people dine in after 8:15.
