The whole place has a very tech-forward vibe. There’s even a robot that brings you water, which is both adorable and impressive. The service feels smooth and modern, and the experience is just as entertaining as it is tasty.
Sometimes the wait can get a bit long, but honestly, it’s worth it. Once you’re seated, everything moves quickly and the fun atmosphere makes the time fly. Highly recommend trying their lychee tea — it’s refreshing and pairs perfectly with the sushi.
Overall, Kura is a great pick if you’re looking for delicious food, a lively setting, and something a little different from your usual dining experience!
They don’t make reservations in person or over the phone, it’s app only. The app is super confusing and doesn’t even tell you that you can make a reservation. I couldn’t tell you under threat of death how we even managed to figure it out. Hopefully they fix that soon. We showed up 5 minutes early for our reservation (on attempt 2) and still had to wait 30 minutes to get seated.
The street is crazy busy, it’s kind of an ordeal to get into the parking lot, and there’s two guys stationed out front who will charge you $6 cash to park.
If you can make it past all these ridiculous road blocks, the restaurant itself is pretty neat. It’s a cool concept and fun to watch the conveyor belt go by and snatch plates off it. The sushi itself is also pretty good and reasonably priced ($4 per plate as of October 2025, most plates have 2 pieces). Not sure if it’s worth the hassle to go a second time (technically a 3rd since it took us 2 tries to get in), but I do think it’s worth experiencing once.
You can order at your speed and time the meal. In and out in 30 minutes or have fun for about 75 minutes. You do get full, especially full rice nigiris!
I was pleasantly surprised by the pumpkin mochi dessert. The mochi was crispy and the ice cream was thick and creamy. I’ve had a lot of mochi but I’ve never had anything like this.
Really fun experience to try a little bit of everything and come with family.
Everything tasted good and fresh.
Would definitely come a couple times a year for fun 🙂
The service was really friendly and And I just love Sawtelle, it’s such a fun, vibrant neighborhood. Definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to.
We devoured over 15 plates and even got a fun little prize at the end — such a cute bonus! The place was busy but super efficient. Service was quick, friendly, and the whole vibe was clean and upbeat. Oh, and the green tea? So good — warm, earthy, and perfect with the sushi.
A perfect spot for sushi lovers. We’re already planning our next visit to try even more dishes!

However, one issue really spoiled the experience: I wanted to redeem my birthday dessert offer. The app said to “call the server,” so we did. I said we want to redeem birthday offer and showed the QR code, and the server told us to click through the digital menu, but didn’t explain what we were actually doing, just told us where to tap. We were assuming that there is special instruction on how to redeem offers. Then we realized that we were guided through checking out. You cannot eat more if you checked out, but that was fine since we were nearly done eating, but no one explained what was happening, and what if we still wanted to continue eating?
Our server left, then another waiter came, we asked about our dessert, he scanned the QR code, and we waited for the dessert. Then the server brought the check. When we asked about the birthday dessert, he looked at the receipt and said we wouldn’t be getting it because it has to be ordered while you’re still eating and before checking out, and offer can be redeemed only during checkout. This was never explained in the app (it just said to call the server) or by the staff, it felt like they just assumed we knew how it worked.
We explained that no one told us, and the server simply said, “Come next time and do it right.” (Next time?? Like next year for my next birthday???) We asked if it was still possible to get the dessert, considering the confusion. Communication was very difficult, most of the servers didn’t speak English well, but eventually they called the manager. The manager clearly explained the process and kindly agreed to bring us the dessert to-go.
We did get it in the end, but the whole situation was upsetting and left us disappointed.
