We went on a weekend. Their idlis tasted fresh. Their non veg thali and mutton biryani were okay. The server recommended the biryani and said was their speciality. We didn’t like the texture or taste of it.

Will stick to dosa / idli next time.

We are right now at this restaurant having dinner. We ordered Bullet Naan, Pongal, Dosai and Kesari . Food is beyond great , the chutneys, sambar , Pongal and Kesari tastes like homemade Tamilian food. The Bullet Naan was fresh , soft and cooked well . The filter coffee was quite nostalgic, just like what we get at home.

Visited Kuppanna Restaurant in Austin and loved every bite! We had the Pomfret Fish Fry, Chilly Chicken and Malabar Porotta with Salna. The fish fry had 5–6 perfectly cooked pieces, the chilly chicken tasted authentically South Indian, and the porotta with salna was soft and flavorful. Appetizers were $14.99 each, and the porotta was $12.99 — totally worth it.

The restaurant was packed even on a holiday, showing how popular it is. If you want authentic South Indian flavors in Austin, Kuppanna is a must-visit. Can’t wait to go back!

Very bad taste. I love their Dallas branch mutton kangu biryani. The Kangu biryani here is an absolute let down, it was definitely not fresh and it tasted more like a some pulao with no flavors. Their chicken 65 was good, I was about to finish more than half of the plate only because I was starving, I left many pieces. The whole experience is way different from what you get at their Dallas branch.

Kuppanna has easily become our favorite spot. I’d honestly call this location a hidden gem. We recently moved to Austin from Miami, and while I read tons of Reddit posts looking for good Indian food, not many people mentioned this place. Even some of our friends said the same.

The Chicken Kongu Biryani is outstanding, and the Chicken Kongu Curry with parota is something we keep going back for. The flavors are rich, authentic, and consistently good every single time. You can really taste that traditional Kongu style.

I also ordered catering from them recently, and they absolutely delivered. Everything was well packed, on time, and the food quality was just as good as dining in.

What really impressed me was their Kongu chicken curry. The taste is very close to what I used to get at Savaji Hotel back in my hometown, which says a lot. It’s not easy to find that kind of authenticity.

If you’re in Austin and craving proper Kongu-style food, this place is definitely worth trying. Highly recommend.

After long time Had the Kongu chicken biryani today and it totally reminded me of kuska back Bangalore! So flavorful and comforting. The chicken noodles had that real street food vibe — simple but so good. Took me back to old memories. Definitely coming back again!

I recently ordered catering from Kuppana for my team of 25 members from 7 different countries. I was a little skeptical about how the team will accept the spice level of Indian food. But everyone on my team enjoyed every item and also we invited other non team members to share the left overs and everyone enjoyed and appreciated the taste and started asking where the food is from. Thank you so much for the food. On time delivery and service Mr. Nandha and Kuppana team

They are doing great work and I hope this business gets a lot of love and support. They are specialists of the Kongu Nadu cuisine, which comes from a specific part of the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. I have enjoyed every single dish I’ve had so far, and will definitely keep going back for more. For reference, I’m NOT from that part of the country, but I appreciate well prepared food across any cuisine.

Delicious vegetarian and non vegetarian food options. Food was plenty and very reasonably priced! This plate was only $14… in Atlanta, the same dish would be close to $26!

I’ve never written a review before, but this place finally inspired me to start. We went to Kuppanna for a birthday lunch to try their thali, and the experience can be summed up in one word: “horrible.”

Let’s start with the food. Every single item in the thali was stone cold. Not “slightly warm” or “could be hotter” cold, I mean straight from the refrigerator cold. We pointed this out multiple times, and each time the server politely took the dish back, returned it, and confidently said, “sir, its hot now”. Apparently microwaves are doing overtime here.

Then there was the ghee rice. This deserves an award of its own. It was so cold it could’ve qualified as weather equipment during Austin’s ice storm. When we mentioned it to one of the female staff taking orders, we were told, “sir, this was made in the morning, we cannot heat it, you have to eat it cold. If we heat, rice becomes hard”.
Moments later, she brought out a steaming hot veg biryani from the microwave. Apparently, the rice in veg biryani doesn’t become hard when reheated/microwaved.

At this point, I assume the owner noticed the chaos and came over. He took my thali and replaced it with a new one. The replacement included three fully microwaved items (biryani, chicken, and mutton), while the fish and other items remained impressively cold. We had ordered two thalis, but only one was replaced, consistency is clearly not their strong suit.

After nearly an hour at the restaurant, we had to call the server to figure out how to drink water. They had thoughtfully placed a water jug on the table, but no glasses. When the glasses finally arrived, they were filthy, one even had something inside it. Photo attached for anyone curious.

No cutlery. No water glasses. Bad bad service. For almost every item listed in the thali menu, we had to ask whether it was available and if we could please get some, because apparently ordering a thali doesn’t mean you actually get everything in it.

Avoid this place. There are far better restaurants that are actually worth the money you money.

Oh, and yes—obviously I tipped 0.
