Reviews
The service stood out as exceptional, with staff who were attentive without hovering and knowledgeable at least for the questions we had. The food itself was excellent, prepared with care and presented with the kind of detail you hope for in a higher-end Japanese restaurant.
The food is very authentically prepared by chefs right before your eyes at the bar. Just a really fun place.
It is on the pricey side, but the overall quality, ambiance, and service made it feel worth it. A great choice for a quiet, night out.
The atmosphere was rich and lively, you can tell the employees really enjoy their jobs. Annie and Corey were the stars of the night! (Both were so bubbly and great conversationalists- Corey let my friends and I guess his name, a bit of a playful thing we do!) 10/10 would recommend for friends night outs, date nights, or a solo sushi adventure. Will be back!
From the menu we ordered the toro tartare, assorted sushi, a few sushi rolls (I’m usually not a fan of rolls but my boyfriend is), miso cod, and wagyu. The presentation was beautiful and fitting for every dish. I’ve always loved the combination of toro and black caviar, but I didn’t expect to find it executed this well in Denver. Their tartare was outstanding, and every plate that arrived at our table was a true pleasure.
I highly recommend coming to this restaurant and trying the chef’s recommendations. If I were a Michelin inspector, I would absolutely include them in the guide.
We came in as a group of five. We started by asking questions about a $200+ bottle of sake that did not list an SMV. The only feedback we were given was that it was “sweet,” and no one could provide additional information. We ordered it anyway and it was good, but the lack of product knowledge was noticeable.
Once food arrived, we realized we had no soy sauce. We asked our waitress three times and were told it was “coming out,” but it never did. We eventually asked a busser, who immediately brought it over. Water glasses were left empty throughout the meal, and no water bottle was left at the table.
Our server seemed disengaged. Everyone can have an off day, which is understandable, but at a high-end restaurant there is still an expectation of professionalism and attentiveness.
We ordered real wasabi with no horseradish and were instead brought horseradish-mixed wasabi, which you are charged for. We also ordered a hamachi collar that was inedible — extremely fishy and clearly not fresh. It was sent back and not comped. Our salmon nigiri never came out at all.
There is also an automatic 20% service charge added to the bill. Given the service and multiple mistakes, it was frustrating to have no discretion, and it became clear why there was little urgency or accountability.
The only positive was that the nigiri itself was very good.
I’ve had great experiences here before, which makes this visit especially disappointing. It’s clear things have gone downhill, and with so many better sushi options in Denver, I won’t be returning unless there are serious changes in management and service.
