This was my second visit to Krumpe’s Do-nut Shop, and the experience proved entirely worth the trip. This family-owned establishment carries a remarkably rich and captivating history.
The Krumpe family has been perfecting their craft for nearly a century, beginning in the early 1930s when Rudolf Krumpe first mastered the art of donut-making and opened his own shops. What makes their creations so exceptional is the meticulous, hand-taught technique that has been passed down through generations—first from Rudolf to his son Max, and now to the newest custodians of the craft. Each successor learned the trade at a young age, standing shoulder-to-shoulder in the shop, refining the same mixing, frying, and glazing methods preserved for decades.
Today, the shop remains as beloved as ever. Nestled downtown between Hagerstown and Funkstown, it’s a grab-and-go gem—no seating, no frills, and no restrooms, so plan accordingly. The space inside is tight, and it’s common to see a line wrapping around the building, which only affirms its popularity.
Their selection is impressively varied. We ordered a dozen split between cinnamon cake and powdered cake, along with another half dozen of their classic chocolate cake donuts—always favorites. We also tried a seasonal offering: red velvet cake topped with cream cheese frosting. Truly sublime and unlike anything else. To round out our order, we brought home a dozen donut holes to enjoy throughout the week. Since it’s about a 35-minute drive for us, we love to stock up—and it’s unquestionably worth every mile.
A small note: parking is limited. There are roughly six diagonal, free parking spots directly across from the shop, so arriving early is wise.

I’m not understanding these 5 star reviews. Came on a Saturday night got 6 donuts. They all went in the trash the taste these donuts had were grosss! . I wish I could explain it. Almost like metal with glaze. Not to mention how dirty it is in there. They were handling money, working the register, and grabbing donuts without changing gloves. I’d rather have eaten a stale Dunkin donut instead.

Hands down this place has the best donuts I have ever had. From the West Coast to the East Coast these donuts, long johns,Bavarian crème and jelly were all delicious. The taste is light and airy. These are the best pastries I’ve ever had. I have been back twice and shared the donuts with family who also fell in love. I have only one complaint. I wish you were open earlier. I highly recommend this unique place with the best donuts!!

Love this place!!! I have always been bought the donuts and tonight was my first night going to the place! I loved it, there was a wait because it was busy but it was still quick. It’s was very inexpensive, 3 donuts and a milk for less than 10 dollars! This is the donut of the month peaches and cream and a regular glaze donut, it was amazing ❤️

The variety of donuts are great, if you getvthere at opening tine you will have the opportunity to choose of the variety. If you are a person that likes alot and super sweet frosting that’s your place to go.

Found this little gem while on vacation in the area!
Odd hours we thought, but made it on time to try them out. A bunch of flavours were sold out but it went to show how good they were. The service was great! We will be back if ever in the area again!
