I had seen positive reviews, so I was excited to try this food truck. The ladies running the place are very nice, so the service is friendly. And the menu includes hush puppies and fried okra, which are Southern standards, harder to find in the PNW. Plus they’re a local woman-owned business. So I made the trip up to Battle Ground to check them out.

I enjoyed the parts I’m assuming were made from scratch- the potato salad was flavorful, the mac and cheese (although less saucy than the style I usually prefer) had a bit of extra flair and flavor from some pepper jack, and the rotating dessert of the day was a moist, delicious Oreo red velvet cake. That cake was a real highlight, even though red vevet is normally a hit or miss for me.

The serving size was also generous enough for most people to have leftovers. And I should note that my seafood plate came with a drink and dessert. I also added a side of fried okra, which I believe was discounted because I asked to sub it in for the collard greens that weren’t ready yet when I got there.

Unfortunately, pricing was still much higher than I would normally spend. After tax/tip, this $50 lunch was a splurge that I justified because I heard the portions are large. So when I sat down to eat, I was disappointed that the seafood appeared to be the prepackaged bland breaded type, and I found a couple bits of shell in my oysters. HOWEVER I have a feeling if I’d ordered an entree that was fully prepared in-house, I would’ve probably had a different experience. If I return in the future, I’ll stick to something that sounds more like an in-house specialty instead.

Bottom line- I don’t want to discourage anyone from trying them out, and I’d rate my experience about 3½ stars. I would probably give things another chance if I happen to be nearby. I wish them success- I’ll just learn from my mistake and do a better job ordering next time.

Expensive food truck with substandard food. The potato salad and cabbage were terrible. Pickles and potato salad didn’t go well at all. Nothing was seasoned very well, but the pulled pork was especially tasteless and greasy. I’m not sure who provided the 5 star reviews, probably people who don’t know how southern food should taste or friends of the owner. The plate was $46.70. That’s ridiculous considering how bad the food was. Also, she said it would take less than 15 minutes. Unlike the other vendors, she didn’t have a beeper. It took almost 40 minutes to get this food, and I had to stand in the cold to wait for it. If you like southern food and reasonable prices, please don’t eat here. When I asked for a refund, I was given a full refund. She was really polite.

This food truck is SO good. We ordered the Mississippi chicken which was on special, and the fried chicken. Everything we got was well seasoned, cooked to perfection, with gigantic portions of everything. We were greeted with such lovely warm smiles along with excellent service. Without a doubt, we’ll be back often!
