Went there for lunch with my Indiana aunt and cousins. Food was good, with the exception of the green beans. I have never eaten sweetened green beans and didn’t care for them. I was looking forward to a piece of sugar cream pie which definitely didn’t disappoint. A choice of ice cream and toppings come with the meal. Several in our party had the chicken salad special which came with a glass of Champagne. As we left, we were all given a small bag of kettle corn to commemorate their 100th anniversary.

We had a lovely dining experience on the lush and peaceful patio, where there was plenty of space to accommodate our extended family. To say the food was plentiful would be the understatement of the year! The children were especially thrilled with the ice cream at the end. (OK, so were the adults.) The service was also very good. Both of the young people who tended to our table were attentive, friendly, and helpful.

Fried chicken was ok. Green beans and corn tasted like sugar (too much) was very sweet. Mashed potatoes gravy were good. Catfish was good my sons steak was good. Salad was good. Apple butter was so so. The service was excellent. We were a group of 15 with 5 small kids. The broccoli cheddar soup was so so the broccoli was little bits sprinkled on top.

The Kopper Kettle. What Indiana native hasn’t heard of, if not dined at, the Kopper Kettle? I can remember going there with my mother and older sister as a child in the 50’s and 60’s. The food then was absolutely wonderful. I loved the Swiss steak more than anything. Later visits through the years grew less pleasing. A lot of the food seemed bland and, as the years went by, overpriced. By the time I was near middle-aged the food and service were no longer much of a treat. I felt I could have gone anywhere and had as good a meal and friendlier service. The worst thing about the Kopper Kettle–my opinion ever since I was a child–is the decor. While some love it so much, I find it overly froufrou and downright tacky. Ordinary food that is priced too high and ugly surroundings: no thanks!

It was our Anniversary and we just moved to the area so we decided to try Kopper Kettle. We got there and the young lady at front told us it would be about 20 minutes and we said okay. 5 minutes later she asked our name again. Then someone came in and she knew them and they talked and one of the girls was laughing about failing two math classes. (Which was ironic since they were cashing people out). After 50 minutes I said something to the other girls and they looked and seated us. The two girls were nice, but did not seem to know their jobs. After seated my wife and I got the Chicken and Catfish. The chicken was okay, the vegetables and potatoes were good. The Catfish was like mush inside, no taste and just not good. So I would think it had to be frozen for the middle to be that way. With the waut and the fish, we will not be back. I have to admit the wait staff was really good.

Took a Saturday road trip to check out “one of the best fried chicken” restaurants in Indiana. The Kopper Kettle lived up to the hype. Really interesting property, with impressive history. Great food & great service. We had the fried chicken, served family style.

This is always a great experience to enjoy with family and friends. The historic atmosphere coupled with the tasty food and great service makes the hour long drive well worth it. Although they have an extensive menu, we always go with the fried chicken and the endless bowls of buttery mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and bread with apple butter. And, on some nights, they have live piano music. When you’re done eating, be sure to check out the upstairs where you can see the various rooms, learn more about the history of the building and maybe see a ghost. On your way out, you’ll be given some of their amazing popcorn.

Rating a rounded up 5, solid 4. Been trying to visit Kopper Kettle for years from late evening drive by’s but place always busy and not open very late. Finally had weekend lunch, didn’t need reservation as winter season. Ample parking. Personnel courteous but not social gabbers which is too bad as a place like this you’d expect to be chatted up as if you were a regular local even if you’re not. Service timely and thoughtful. Fried chicken light egg or batter not breading coated so light not thick skin. Rating: good. Catfish light/medium granule breading but not gamey flavor so good. All lunch platters came with tossed salad, bread, apple butter, mashed potatoes and homemade chicken gravy, plentiful green beans (canned not fresh though) and ice cream with topping dessert. Great value and filling lunch portions. Bread basket kept full, and ice tea pitcher refills! About 6 miles east of SR9 on US 52 in Morristown makes for a more convenient drive than expected. The interior is 1960’s-70s American Colonial/ traditional and the chairs wobbly rickety so you know this is a well seasoned facility. Not many restaurants like this in the area, and worth a trip away from suburbia but call ahead for reservations else you may not get seated. Outdoor has a patio area, probably for summer waiting area but does have an indoor greeting area. Would return again but for a rural restaurant would expect a little more conversational service not all business.
