We tried the Thanksgiving Non-Veg Special Meal at Kongunadu in San Jose and it was absolutely outstanding. Every single item on the thali was flavorful, fresh, and perfectly prepared.

The Turkey Pepper Fry and Kongu Chicken Varuval were the stars—authentic spices, great texture, and full of rich Kongu-nadu flavors. The Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani was aromatic and perfectly cooked, and the side dishes like Pacha Puli Rasam, Spinach Kootu, Veg Salna, and Pollachi Chicken Kulambu balanced the meal beautifully.

Even the simpler parts of the thali—steamed rice, curd, appalam, and the delicious Badam Halwa—were made with care and tasted fantastic.

For $24.99, the portion size and the variety offered were totally worth it.
Entire thali was excellent. Highly recommended!

The moment you walk in, you feel the comfort of homestyle food mixed with the bold flavors of the Kongu region. The menu is packed with authentic dishes that are not very common in other restaurants, and everything is prepared with a lot of care.
The standout items are the Kothu Parotta, Nattu Kozhi dishes, Pallipalayam Chicken, and their unique biryanis. The spice level is balanced and every bite has clean flavors without too much oil. The parottas are soft and layered, the gravies taste homemade, and the meat is cooked perfectly. Even simple items like rasam, sambar, and veg meals feel very close to traditional Tamil home cooking.
Service is quick, the staff is polite, and the place is very clean. The food arrives hot, and even during busy hours they maintain quality. The pricing is reasonable for the portions you get, and the taste easily makes it worth it.
If you are missing authentic Kongu Tamil Nadu flavors or if you want to try something beyond the regular dosa and idli routine, this place is a must visit. It is a true comfort food spot in San Jose and a top choice for anyone who loves regional South Indian cuisine.

We visited Kongunadu Indian Restaurant today and absolutely loved the food. Bunny took care of us and his service was amazing—he explained everything so well and was genuinely polite.

Their Elaneer Karupatti Halwa is a must-try if you have a sweet tooth. The veg mini thali was also a big hit, and the portions were really generous.

Overall, such a lovely experience. Definitely a must-try restaurant!

Update: Got the Non veg Pongal Virundhu (for 2) and it was an absolute experience and food was more than enough for 2. Thank you team Mathampatty for the absolute experience.

Loved the food and ambience! One of the best food joints that brings the true flavor of Tamil Nadu to the United States!

Book your seats in advance to avoid long wait times. Parking can be crowded during weekend.

A true gem in the Bay Area, Kongunadu offers an authentic and delightful culinary journey through the flavors of its namesake region in Southern India. My experience here was absolutely fantastic, elevated by incredible food and impeccable service.
Our server, Bunny, was a star. He was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu with fantastic recommendations that turned out to be the highlights of our meal. His suggestions truly made our dining experience special.
We started with the Chicken Chintamani, a specialty of the Kongunadu region. Made with country chicken, it was wonderfully light, less oily than typical preparations, and cooked to perfection. The spice level was spot-on, delivering a flavorful kick without being overwhelming. We also tried the Vanjaram Tawa Fish Fry. The beauty of this dish was in its simplicity; the fish was incredibly fresh, the flavors were clean yet profound, and it was cooked flawlessly.
On Bunny’s recommendation, we ordered the Madhampatty Special Biryani, and it was a showstopper. The biryani was incredibly aromatic and flavorful. Bunny mentioned that it’s prepared without any ajinomoto or artificial flavorings, and you can truly taste the difference—it had a wonderful, wholesome, homemade quality to it.
To round off our meal, we tried the unique Rose Paneer Goli Soda, which was a refreshing treat. But the absolute must-try is the Elaneer Karupatti Halwa. This tender coconut and palm jaggery dessert was the perfect, unique ending to an amazing meal. Don’t leave without trying it!
Overall, Kongunadu is a standout restaurant for its authentic, high-quality food and exceptional service. Highly recommended!

Beautiful ambiance and even better food.

We came for an early dinner around 5:30 pm. The place was quiet and calm at that hour. We got seated quickly by Mohan, an amazing guy, and he ensured that our experience overall went super smooth.

Delicious dishes with spices that were well-balanced — we had a starter called Pallipalayam Mushroom, and two main dishes were Parotta with Chicken Curry, and Madurai Malli Dosa. Each dish had a distinct flavor and was made by expert hands.

Thanks to Prakash and Mohan, we also got to try the Chicken Drumstick Soup and Veg Drumstick Soup. The soups were excellent especially with the chilly weather outside.

We can’t wait to recommend this place to our family, friends, and co-workers. We intend to come again soon!

After planning for a long time, we finally get to visit Kongunadu Indian Restaurant for lunch today.I am not exaggerating if I say I had high expectations for that place after reading the reviews and the popularity of Mr.Madhampatty himself. We ordered the special kari virundhu ( which is good for 2 ) and a parotta for my son. They served Kozhi Chaaru. It made me feel nostalgic about my grand mother from kongunadu.Every item on the menu is delicious. The 2 desserts Elaneer karupatti Halwa and verrilai payasam were awesome. The payasam is very unique in taste.Kola Urundai melted in mouth. All meat were cooked to perfection.Fish in the curry and fry both were very fresh.Every item cooked with right amount of Indian spices which made us to enjoy the flavour more. The special briyani is worth the hype.We ordered one more briyani and melted away in each and every bite.My son gave 5 star for the parotta. When I checked now,I found they missed to serve us the Gulkand. So no idea how it tasted.Altogether, thanks for making our 2025 Diwali more special and memorable

We visited Konganadu twice – we tried the mutton thaali, veg thaali, thunder chicken, paneer butter masala, mini falooda, filter coffee. Food was simple and clean which is what we look for when eating out. Staff was friendly and efficient with our food being served promptly. Our host Bala took care of us both times and is a pleasure to talk to. Will be back to try their special biryanis next time.
