Established in 1963, during the second coming of the tiki rise and revolution, Kon Tiki is now one of the last remaining original outposts to survive what could be considered a “tik bar depression.” Kon Tiki is a purveyor of Aloha and proud practitioners of hospitality who would like to welcome you to delight in a “one of a kind” atmosphere that is home to the world’s largest collection of Milan Guanko carved tikis and assorted island curios. Today, Kon Tiki is still a neighborhood-centric destination, that is best known for a cocktail menu of 50+ tiki inspired libations as well as a collection of island and inland comfort foods. Mahalo!

On a Friday evening it was very busy. Standing room only. There were 5 of us, but they were still able to seat us fairly quickly. I had a half rack of ribs. Ordering ribs can be a gamble, because you never know how the sauce will be. The rib sauce at KonTiki was probably the best sauce I’ve ever had. I’m definitely getting that again. My sisters got the sampler plate. It’s actually listed as a 2 person appetizer. But it’s a good size meal for one person. Also very good. One odd thing. The group in the private room toward the back closed the curtains after their meal to take some group pictures. The bartender noticed and stormed over to the room saying loudly, Why are these shut?, as she whipped the curtains open. Seemed a little rude and unnecessary. The group carried on with their photos seemingly unscathed. Other than that, the visit to KonTiki was very enjoyable. Of course we’ll be back again.

This is one of the last, true, authentic Tiki bars that has been in business since the 1960s. You can find all of the classic cocktails there and they’re made the right way. The food is good, but the pupus are probably the best way to enjoy a variety. The Tiki decor is pretty well done with a giant thatch roof bar and several mois. If you’re a tiki fan, this place is must-see. I highly recommend you come even if you’re not into it, because you will be soon.

I am starting this review with the negative which is that the decor is starting to so it’s age. It still gives you the atmosphere of the islands. Appetizers were delicious. My hamburger was awesome. My companions also enjoyed their selections.

I have been going to Kon Tiki for 57 yrs. I loved its atmisphere as a child and still love it as an old lady. I have gone for Anniversaries and Birthdays and even entertained there as a Hula Girl in the day.
