The legend began on June 25, 1966, when Sidney & Frances Koch opened Koch’s Take Out Shop on their 28th wedding anniversary. My parents always wanted a place around a campus, Bobby reminisced in a January interview with Family Business. They loved being around students. Bobby remembered his mother delivering homemade chicken soup to anyone who was sick. She was the quintessential Jewish mother, he said. Family members handed out sliced meat to customers waiting in line, most of whom they greeted by name. Bobby and Lou gradually took over for their parents in the 80s and renamed the business Koch’s Deli.

Outstanding Hoagie! I hadn’t been here in over 15 years in which time many food places have gone downhill. Not this place! Customer service was top notch and the hoagie was very fresh with flavorful meat and fresh cooper cheese.

Where should I start? This place is a HIDDEN GEM!! I was visiting for with my family from Texas, and when i say everything about this place exhibits the brotherly love that represents Philadelphia. The staff were very friendly to me and my family, and the food was just AMAZING. Portions were more than enough, flavor was on point, and the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Wow, I stumbled across this place by accident heading to the CVS across the street.
This has now become my favorite sandwich shop. The staff are super friendly and treat you like family as soon as you walk in the door. You get friendly hellos, an actual name from the employee and let me know when your ready.
I ordered the spicy beef hoagie with black pepper cooper sharp. The beef is amazingly tender and flavorful and I’ve never seen that cheese anywhere else. But the same could be said for a lot of thier meats and cheeses. Where else do you find a beef tounge sandwich or roasted garlic and horseradish cheddar.
Once you order your food and move to the back to wait for it you are presented with a non stop buffet of meat and cheese slices from the sandwich chefs. They hand out generous samples of every meat and cheese that hits the cutting machine for other orders while your waiting.
I was already stuffed by the time I got my sandwich.
For great customer service, amazing samples and a variety that you would usually have to hit multiple shops for Koch’s is the place to go. Bring your appetite and they’ll handle the rest.

Had it delivered and the Italian hoagie and cheesesteak arrived a bit early. The cheesesteak was jam packed with filling and the bread crust was a bit soft – the way I like it. Saving the Italian hoagie for later, but it also looks great. Didn’t get a chance to eat in, so left Atmosphere blank.

My aunt in the nursing home was very happy. She said the sandwich was well put together very cleanly. She said the taste was excellent. Like an old Italian sandwich, she said that everything was magnificent. She enjoyed it and the only thing she was that you could do because she did have your chicken wings, she was like barbecuing don’t throw sauce on them barbecuing. This place is an institution! The hoagie (subs, grinders, sandwiches- however you refer to them) are huge and their is so much meat! Definitely enough for 2-3 meals or one college football player. Sometimes the owners hand out samples of meat and cheese slices too.

Been wanting to try this place for a while. Ordered a hot pastrami it came on rye bread with Swiss and Russian. I asked for coleslaw to be added. My sandwich arrives and they put salty sauerkraut. I specifically said if you can’t add coleslaw to the sandwich leave it as is. It was also very sloppy I couldn’t even pick it up and they didn’t even cut it all the way through the whole thing just fell apart. I just balled it up and threw it away. $30 down the drain. Just very disappointed.
