Kobe Japanese Steakhouse in Birmingham offers a classic hibachi and sushi experience that’s both entertaining and satisfying. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels lively, with the traditional hibachi grills at the center of attention. Watching the chefs perform their signature knife skills, flame tricks, and playful theatrics adds a fun, interactive element to your meal, making it great for celebrations or group dinners.
The hibachi dishes are cooked fresh to order, with high-quality meats, seafood, and vegetables. Steaks, chicken, and shrimp are seasoned well and paired with fried rice and vegetables that are flavorful without being overcooked. The sushi menu is extensive, offering traditional rolls as well as creative specialty options, all prepared with fresh ingredients.

Who doesn’t want to pay $85 for the wrong order? I mean you could drive to Trussville and get Mizu or Konomi and your order would be completely right, but what fun is that? At Kobe, not only do you pay top dollar, but get the experience of your to-go order being a complete surprise to you!
Last time they gave my order away before I arrived, I re-ordered and they still messed it up. This time, the receipt was right, but the order in the box was all wrong. Why didn’t I check it before I left you ask? Because, they are capable of doing one thing and that’s tying a knot in a plastic bag no man can break.
I’m sure this won’t make a difference, but maybe I can help someone else out before they get the same experiences I have.

Only gets two stars because the table was clean.
Noodles were undercooked. Steak was made wrong. My friend tried to ask for a drink multiple times while our server was at our table and was blatantly ignored. Food was BLAND, I’m overall not happy with this place. To top it off, Valentine’s Day and they aren’t even busy. I should’ve known. Rice was good though, with yum yum sauce… 0/10 don’t recommend.

We just left this restaurant after being given no service what so ever. Our server took our appetizer order and never came back. After waiting for around 20 minutes we stopped someone to also ask for plates and soy dishes which were never brought and our server was also never brought to our table. Our drinks were left empty. However the rangoons we got were delicious. Even after all of this we were never apologized to or reconciled. I have been a server for nearly 10 years and have never left a review before, but that was absolutely insane. Please do not waste your time coming here.

We used to go to Mt Fuji but to our surprise they were closed on Mondays. We made our way to Kobe and the surprises never stopped. Not only was the food better, the atmosphere was better too. I loved the soup and salad before the meal. The chef was so cool and very entertaining. This will be our new Japanese food favorite. As a bonus they are open on Mondays. They use flat noodles and less salt which I like better. Stll great in 2025.

This was a very pleasant Teppanyaki experience, but lacks the luster of the old Kobe further down 280 on the hill. The food is still very good and the show is always very enjoyable. Great place for families and kids – and good sushi, to boot.

The Hibachi was good, but the rolls had way to much ride, and to much rice vinegar, making them taste odd.

I considered this the best Hibachi from the few I have been to in Birmingham. Today my friends and I all had a bad experience. They sat us down and took our order right away however our cook took longer to get out to our table then to other tables that had sat down after us. Then when he finally came out he did the bare minimum and left and even messed up on 1 of our orders. Food was bland and a lot less than what we have had in the past. We had requested the birthday special and the chef never even sang nor acknowledged at all as other chefs were doing at other tables. After all these bad experiences, I had to complain to the hostess and she said to me that she had asked him to keep his time with us short because they were busy. All she said after that was “please just come back another day and I promise I will give you guys more attention.” After we left most of our group also felt sick in our stomach. This was definitely our worst experience in a restaurant. We won’t be returning!
