However the grease coming from the food was so off putting by the end of the meal both cardboard boxes were coming apart as the grease was dripping through.
The batter wasn’t crispy. It may’ve started off crispy but was just soggy & falling off the fish. I’m so grateful I bought the food home to eat as the grease would’ve been everywhere had we eaten them sat out somewhere. The box was so soaked & falling apart it would’ve been impossible to eat them out.
Such a shame as they definitely weren’t cheap, but on this experience, we won’t be returning.
I’m aware fish & chips are deep-fried, but these were definitely one of the most greasy fish we’d ever eaten.
The chips are also delightfully crispy and not soggy like so many other places, and the mushy peas taste fresh – I am no expert but I could almost see the fork marks from the “mushing” – these are made in the moment, not out of a can!
A tiny little spot just off the main square in Glastonbury, so unassuming yet so significant – think of how many places serve fish and chips in the UK and here, in Glastonbury, we have the deserved winner! Best fish and chips this reviewer has ever had. Hands down.
Perfect crunchy batter, succulent fish and superb chips.
The best thing of all though, is if you are coeliac they do the best gluten free fish and chips.
At last, somewhere that understands that you can’t cook even the chips in contaminated oil!
Now my husband and I can have fish and chips together
The customer service is excellent and the cooks obviously take pride in their product, as is evident by the quality. Please be prepared to wait at busy times as you can’t prepare food of this standard in 10 minutes.
The drinks are reasonably priced and the courtyard is a wonderful place to eat in warmer times.
It was a pleasure to eat in an establishment that put customer service and quality of food above simply making a profit.
We were too late to eat in their restaurant (that shuts at 8.30pm) so we had a take-away.
They offer a catch of the day & had hake when we visited. We got hake, chips & mushy peas plus battered cod with garlic & oregano fries with aioli. We also had to try their curry sauce.
Service was efficient & friendly.
Meal deals, Pukka pies & other seafood including scampi are also offered.
