Return visit: pizza was great as always but they were out of all the pizzas and told us we could only choose slices from two kinds of pizzas (our choice) – ultimately the next party in the queue got a different slice anyway so we did get the third type we wanted. We also got the garlic fries and the salad which were both good!
First visit:
I saw an Instagram reel and knew I wanted to try this place – it’s not very often that a pizza place has several vegetarian options that aren’t just ‘cheese’ and ‘garden’ pizzas. Love the new, innovative pizza toppings on offer here.
I got a slice each of the Hot Honey Harvest and the Vodka. Both were delicious. They warm up the slices and garnish with cheese before serving- if I’m back (I’m sure I will be!) I’ll definitely ask them to not heat up the slide for as long since it made the base too hard and of course then as it cools down it gets chewy.
Restaurant and seating is pretty basic, it wasn’t super clean but wasn’t dirty.
I had a really disappointing experience here. My friends and I all ordered separately, and one of us tried to order four small pizza slices in two different flavors. There was a misunderstanding and eight small pizzas were ordered instead. These pizzas were already sitting on display and not made to order, so we politely explained that it was a misunderstanding and asked if anything could be done. Keep in mind, the pizza hasnt landed our table yet. Instead of trying to help, the owner came over with a very condescending attitude and immediately shut us down, saying that refunds or fixing mistakes “is not how it works.” The tone alone was enough to make the whole situation uncomfortable. It wasn’t even about the money at that point it was about basic customer service. Comparing the situation to a Mcdonalds and basically telling us “too bad” was honestly shocking for a small business that should care about its customers. A simple solution or even a polite explanation would have gone a long way, but instead we were treated like we were being unreasonable for pointing out a clear misunderstanding. The pizza itself was fine, but the way we were spoken to completely ruined the experience. There are plenty of places in the area with better customer service. I wouldn’t come back.
*Edit and response to the owner*: First of all the owner’s defensive response here reflects the SAME attitude we experienced in person. And to clarify we never blamed the staff. It was simply a misunderstanding. Once we realized the mistake, we politely asked if anything could be done since the pizzas were already on display and NOT made to order. The pizza had NOT came to the table yet! What made the situation frustrating wasn’t the policy, but the rude and condescending tone we were met with, including the comparison to McDonald’s. Also, mentioning that these reviews are from the same group doesn’t change anything we were all there and experienced the same interaction.
The Pepperoni Square was perfectly crisp on the edges with just the right amount of cheese pull. The Sausage & Peppers had that perfect balance of savory sausage and sweet roasted peppers. The Vodka Square was rich, creamy, and absolutely addictive. And the Hot Honey Harvest? Sweet, spicy, and smoky truly a showstopper.
You can tell they use fresh, high quality ingredients and really care about their craft. The crust is the perfect mix of airy and crunchy, and the flavors are bold without being over the top. Service was friendly and fast, and the atmosphere is relaxed but welcoming.
If you love pizza that’s made with passion and creativity, Kizza Pizza is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be coming back to try more!
We were seriously BLOWN AWAY and MASSIVELY impressed with Kizza Pizza.
If you’re a fan of Detroit-style pizza, THIS SPOT is absolutely worth checking out and WORTH the drive! We drove about 40 minutes north of us and are glad we did!
The slices are huge—It feels like you get two for the price of one—and they’re thick, hearty, and loaded with toppings!
We’ve tried everyones favorite Via 313, and honestly, we prefer Kizza. The sourdough crust is thicker in comparison, crisp on the edges, soft in the middle, and each slice felt more substantial and flavorful. They offer 7 different slices of their Detroit style pies, which allows you to basically try them all if you want!
Top Three included: The Mushroom Taleggio – rich and savory without being too heavy. The Hot Honey Harvest – perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The Meat Lover’s – a classic done really well.
Don’t miss the garlic rosemary fries with scallion ranch. Honestly it was an unexpected side, cause after eating pizza who thinks they need more carbs, but they were so crispy and good!
We visited during a super busy time, Ren was incredibly helpful with slice recommendations and very attentive to the dining area—making sure tables were cleaned and guests were taken care of!
They also offer 14” New York–style pies if you’re in the mood for a thinner crust, which is a nice bonus. Also delicious, but we have to say the Detroit stole the show!
They also have dessert, which apparently we will have to go back and experience! Plus we saw a salad that looked pretty epic to!
All in all, the portions are generous, service is friendly and efficient, and the food delivers!
Kizza Pizza is a great option if you’re looking for a satisfying and well-executed Detroit slice in Austin!
