The restaurant has such a beautiful interior and it was a spacious and calming atmosphere.
Our server was patient and accommodating. He made some great recommendations & was super pleasant as well.
Our food came out quickly and it was delicious! We were thoroughly impressed with the service, freshness, and quality of our food.
10/10 definitely recommend!!
We were 4 adults and 2 young kids. After we ordered, the host (who also served us) told us she would add an automatic gratuity because we were considered a “party of six”. This was not disclosed upfront, and we did not see it posted on the menu or website. We’ve dined here with the same group before (including as recently as mid-November) and were not charged automatic gratuity.
To be clear: we don’t mind tipping 20%. We often do, and we tip more for excellent service. The issue was how this was handled. After we paid and asked about the gratuity, the server confidently told us there was no standard policy, that gratuity depends on the server, and implied that with a different server it might not have been added. Her tone felt dismissive rather than explanatory, which made the situation worse. On top of that, the 20% gratuity was added without being clearly communicated before we ordered.
Food and service issues made the experience worse:
– Ramen arrived lukewarm.
– All three bowls of Kinya ramen were missing black garlic, and the chashu was dry and chewy.
– We ordered a simple kids’ broth and noodles (no chicken), confirmed it multiple times, but it still came with everything. When we pointed it out, the server insisted it was correct and did not apologize or offer to fix it.
We didn’t argue at the table because we just wanted a peaceful dinner with family, but the overall experience felt unwelcoming. If automatic gratuity is a real policy, it should be clearly posted and applied consistently, not decided case by case.
Update: After I posted this, the business replied saying gratuity is automatically added for parties of six or more. That contradicts what we were told during the visit (that it depends on the server), and it still isn’t posted on the menu/website. Their reply also didn’t address the kids’ order issue or the lack of any apology/fix at the table.
The atmosphere here is relaxed and welcoming, perfect for enjoying a hot bowl of soup. My server was genuinely kind and attentive throughout the entire visit, which made the experience even better.
This was my first time at Kinya Ramen, and I already know I’ll be coming back. Definitely a great spot in Jacksonville if you’re craving something warm, flavorful, and comforting.
Broth was good but it was no where close to even seasoned.
Place is cool and service was great but the kitchen staff really needs to taste before pushing the items out for salt, flavor.
Additionally the fish cakes in Kinya Bowl were not fresh, I had a mild histamine reaction due to it. This tells me that they probably set out and were out of temp.
I probably wouldn’t choose to go here again.
