Didn’t actually go inside, they were closed when we arrived. But the beautiful mural was still vibrant and worth the visit. Will be back and will actually go inside in the future.

Kermit’s Treme Mother-In-Law Lounge is more than a bar— it’s a breathing tribute to New Orleans soul. Tucked in the heart of the 7th Ward, this spot pulses with music, memory, and magic. Owned by jazz legend Kermit Ruffins, it’s where brass bands light up the backyard stage and solo piano sets turn happy hour into a whole celebration. The drinks are dive-bar honest, the food is full of flavor when Kermit cooks, and the vibe? A party (in the words of Kermit, “We Partyin’) always a homecoming. It is truly a place that honors the legends while making space for new ones. It’s New Orleans, unfiltered.

Kermit plays Mondays and Saturdays at 06PM!

Amazing atmosphere and Kermit’s cooks some good gumbo besides the lovely music.

Seems like a cool place. A little slow when we were there on a Sunday afternoon. Wishing we’d been able to stick around for another night to see Kermit play. Kitchen was unexpected treat for kind of a historic but divey spot.

Go get your fill of some serious local music,
get there early for the Tuesday 6 PM show it’s the one that will least likely have a line if you get there 15 minutes early. $20 gets you in, cash or card. Its mostly stand only with perhaps a dozen chairs in the small tight quarters.

Kermit is a very active participant in his bar, so do not be surprised if he’s chatting it up with you at the bar or suddenly, you feel a trumpet in your ear and he’s going into town, playing it with so much passion.

The guys all have such a great banter with each other. It is amazing, amusing and delightful to watch. SO much talent on this stage.

The drinks are very moderately priced, they do not give you cups of waters so be prepared to pay for bottled water.

There’s food on the menu and as Irvin Mayfield says Kermit declares himself a chef 1st and a musician 2nd, so if you’re lucky enough ask for what they’re serving on the menu it could be his proclaimed raccoon gumbo.

Forget everything you know about quiet, sit-down venues, because a night at Kermit’s Treme Mother-in-Law Lounge is a full-on, joyous immersion into the soul of New Orleans. Stepping inside this vibrant, historic club feels less like visiting a bar and more like crashing a family reunion—if your family were all master musicians with a knack for grilling up incredible barbecue.

The vibe here is pure, unfiltered fun. The air buzzes with energy, fueled by the infectious rhythm of live jazz that spills out from the intimate stage.

The true highlight, of course, is the music. The sense of community and musical legacy here is awesome. This spirit is a big reason why musicians like Irvin Mayfield Jr. are so essential to the city’s jazz scene, carrying the torch and celebrating the very culture that makes venues like this so special.

Kermit’s is the kind of place that captures the essence of New Orleans—unpretentious, soulful, and full of life. It’s a place to come as you are, eat some good food, and let the music move you. For an authentic, unforgettable night out in the Treme, there’s nowhere else quite like it.

One of my absolute favorite places in New Orleans. You definitely want to go on a night when Kermit is playing! The cover includes whatever big pot of food Kermit decided to make that night. If you’ve never been here, add it to your Bucket List!

We didn’t eat, only had a drink, the place isn’t fancy but it’s full of personality and in Louisiana’s true fashion everyone is welcomed and made to feel at home!!! We were visiting from Texas and it was across from the Air BnB, it’s a historic, neighborhood bar full of old school charm, I loved it!!!

It’s just not safe. We were hesitant as a man was shot and killed inside there just a few months ago in September. Also a day after we were there a couple of years ago a woman was shot right outside. During my visit this week, a group of women directed some really negative behavior toward me which was disappointing given how much I’ve enjoyed this place in the past. We got out of there as soon as the live music ended due to safety concerns and won’t be going back.
