Had 3 special rolls, all with delicious and distinct flavor profiles.
Black Magic had a chewy outer texture and soft inside. The medium intensity flavors let it pair nicely with any of soy, ginger, or wasabi.
J Pop had a really nice sear on the fish, keeping the fatty flavor intact while adding a bit of char. Inside cream was not too heavy and was heavily complemented by the pickled jalapenos. Tempura was nice and light if a little bouncy.
Fatty Tuna had a very silky texture while being creamy and delicate. The little bit of onion is really nice on this one.
There was no wait to be seated for our party of 4 during a weeknight evening. We got a list of monthly specials and tried some of their drinks and appetizers!
I highly recommend the duroc pork belly bun (comes in an order of 1) and their karaage, which comes with shaved fish flakes on top as appetizers! Many for their specialty rolls (maki) also included eel in interesting combinations like with potato or plantain, so I really enjoyed trying those out (Kitchen Sink or Donkey Kong maki). We also tried out their seasonal special croissant pudding with matcha and blueberry.
I happily enjoyed all the food we ordered and I look forward to going track to Kenaki again in the near future!
Among the many offerings, the Black Magic Roll stands out as a true masterpiece and has become one of my all-time favorite dishes. It exemplifies the kitchen’s creativity and commitment to quality.
Located conveniently in the heart of Kentlands, the restaurant also benefits from generous parking availability, making it an easy choice for a relaxed and enjoyable outing. Whether you are a dedicated sushi lover or simply looking for a great meal, this place deserves a spot at the top of your list.
Hamachi crudo was a great appetizer — grapefruit was slightly sweet and refreshing. Hamachi quality was exceptional.
Bluefin tuna was worth every dollar. There are so many varieties to choose from and I can’t wait to go back and get the rest of the bluefin menu.
Maki were excellent. And tekka don used chili crisp which was a nice touch. Desserts were so decadent.
All menu items are anchored in tradition but revised with a fresh modern twist. The modifications can be subtle; the results are relentlessly delicious. I appreciate the name of the sushi rolls as well, very creative and makes it feel fun.
Keep in mind they only offer Japanese liquors. If you’re hip to Japanese whiskey and Saki then you know this is a plus, not a minus. Don’t even try to come here for a Tito’s martini though. It’s not happening!
Very cool interior. I loved the printed wallpaper. Seating is somewhat congested, but not an imposition to a good experience. Staff is always warm and inviting; Service is Knowledgeable and accommodating. I noticed 2PAC and some other 90s hip-hop music playing in the background that was awesome.
The ambiance is very casual and family-friendly.
