Walked in to see a deli/bakery counter. When I sat down, it did not seem German. Starting with the jägerschnitzel. It was ok and the gravy was pretty decent. First bite had some crispy to it. The meat was perhaps a bit thinner than what I prefer but no gristle and it was a good piece of meat. Probably give it a 7 out of 10.

Sauerkraut had some good flavors and was pretty good. 8 out of 10.

Red cabbage had most of the flavor profiles and was about an 8.5 out of 10.

They served a Dunkel German beer on tap. Total bonus. Surprised I don’t recall the name. Beer was fresh and tasted great. Gets a 10.

Had the bratwurst sampler. Yum. Had a nice mustard that went with it. All of the brats were cooked properly and there was a good selection. Was pleased with the portion and the flavors. Would give a 9 out of 10 for that.

Overall experience I would give it an 8.25 out of 10.

Kempner Brick Oven is a small place off Hwy 190, halfway between Copperas Cove and Lampasas. You could zip on by this place on the highway and not even notice it. If you are out this way and in the mood for some good authentic German food and baked goods, DON’T just drive by, stop and give them a try! There’s nothing fancy here, just a small family-owned local restaurant that has welcoming and friendly service.

The schnitzel and sausage that we tried were very good. So were the side dishes, including the cucumber salad, German potato salad, sauerkraut, and French fries. We enjoyed our meal and the fantastic customer service. Of course, we couldn’t leave without getting some baked goods to go! Their pretzels are fresh and look amazing, in fact everything looks great. We took home a full Apple Strudel, a slice of German Chocolate Cake, a slice of Black Forest Cake, and I couldn’t resist getting one of the extra-large pretzel kolache with ham and Swiss cheese inside. The strudel was light and flaky, although I did wish there was more apple filling, we loved it and ate it for breakfast the next day. The cakes were moist and tasted great.

This is one of those family-owned businesses that you just must try for yourself. Reasonable prices, friendly service, very good authentic German food, and an awesome bakery….what more can you ask for!

The main guy offered me and my wife right off the get go with no judgment and no hesitation. Very queer friendly I would say. Definitely will be back to enjoy meals here.

Being from Germany, this place is really good. Reminds me of German restaurants.

Plus the beer is amazing! Good stuff!

Things that are good and worth trying and coming back for more (in my opinion) are:

– Schnitzel (5/5)
– The Carrot Cake (5/5) one of the best carrot cakes ive ever tried. It was moist!
– German Chocolate Cake (5/5) it was my first time trying german cake and it definitely did not disappoint as I am a coconut lover.
– Beer (5/5) i’ll buy some for the house next time i come visit

The sides that come with the meals were pretty decent. Nothing worth noting. If you have a simpler palate, you would fancy this place. The bread they give you as an appetizer is so good! The cakes I got were so delicious that I will definitely come back to try more and get more of the Carrot Cake.

It’s a small mom and pop diner-ish type. It was clean and the service was excellent. They were very friendly and accomodating. The guy that works there knows his beer and gave us a really good bottle. I regret not ordering one for myself. They also have a little market for your German needs like German sauces, chocolates, etc.

I would come back for their baked goods and my Schnitzel fix for sure!

Kempner Brick Oven is a quaint small German style restaurant and bakery. The food that I had was pretty tasty and plentiful. Great selections of local and German beers to choose from as well. Make sure you save room for dessert, there selections of cakes and pies are fabulous for sure! It’s a great stop off place when traveling on 190. The place is clean and people are friendly.

Have driven by here dozens of times with plans of stopping and finally did. I am not a sweets or cake person however this changed that. We got 2 different cakes (Blueberry Mascarpone and Chocolate Ganache) and they were out of this world. I can’t stop thinking about them and I fear for my waistline. The food and beer were great aswell. I got the Rahm Schnitzel with cucumber salad and house fries. My girlfriend got a similar dish with tomato salad. I would probably drive 30 minutes just to buy a portion of the cucumber dill salad. I digress – if you are still reading reviews just stop in and see what you have been missing.
