Kelly’s Tavern in Port Penn is an absolute hidden gem! Hands down the best seafood I had my entire vacation. I ordered the crabcake and the cream of crab soup, and both were outstanding. The crabcake was packed with fresh lump crab, perfectly seasoned, and cooked just right—no filler, just pure flavor. The cream of crab soup was rich, velvety, and loaded with crab in every spoonful.

On top of the incredible food, the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff made me feel right at home. This is the kind of place that reminds you why local taverns are so special.

If you’re anywhere near Port Penn, do yourself a favor and stop at Kelly’s Tavern—you won’t find better seafood. I’ll be dreaming about that crabcake until my next visit!

Looks like a dive bar. Clientele appears all local. We came on a Wednesday night where they have the steamed shrimp special. Place was packed. People filed in quickly ate and left knowing exactly what they were doing. Our server Nancy who is a nurse by profession during the day has been working there for 46 years! She has super powers! As we were trying to figure out the place she just appeared! Our drinks and orders came quickly. Beer on tap was chilled perfectly in a frosted mug and tasted fresh. The shrimp was fantastic the mahi bites tender and the Lima bean soup full of flavor. We even were lucky enough to get soft shelled crab. The strategic mistake we made was not to inquire about fresh oysters first as we were distracted by the shrimp special. We were already full by the time we found out. Next time! We didn’t even look at the menu.

It’s a historical landmark that’s been around for more than 6 decades (maybe longer) so the ambiance is nothing short of a local dive bar. It’s perfect! Only one staff serving the bar and the tables in the tavern but she was swift (Mare was her name) and friendly. Picking crabs is an art form and takes time and they are prepared to each order. Use it to enjoy your party because you will be there at least 2 hours. The beers were cold and served in chilled mugs. Crabs juicy, tender and sweet. $80 bucks a dozen. Seasoned deliciously. Fries and clams the filler. Love Kellys Tavern. Fun, friendly and you will find all types of people.

Don’t go to Kelly’s unless you’re a local! The bartender will ignore you and completely ignore you if you are not from Port Penn! This is almost the same exact review someone gave 7 years ago. I didn’t do a review but many years ago we had the same issues. Never really got a chance to try the crab cakes because we were ignored right at the bar! I really don’t think they’ll care about a one-star review. Everybody who goes there loves the food and gives five stars.

Old timey small town tavern with great food, real beers, and servers who can still stack 5-6 plates on an arm. If you’re not local, all heads will turn when you walk in. Just sit down and enjoy good service and food. CASH ONLY for tips, please, and for your check if possible.

We really like their cook crabs, fried oysters, fried mushrooms, and many other things from the fryer. The lima being soup is really good.
The atmosphere is of a quaint bar that serves good food. The servers and the other customers have always been friendly. We take the drive down route 9 just to stop in Kelly’s when we want some good comfort food.

Amazing little bar resturant! Came in on a Wednesday night, during their shrimp deal, and was pleasantly greeted by staff & customers at the bar. The food was to die for and cooked extremely well. I had the shrimp deal (12 for 8$) and my friend had the fried shrimp platter. Both were excellent.
Wonderful first time experience and will be back soon!

Let me start by saying this is a run-down hole in the wall that doesn’t care about customers. The all you can eat shrimp they advertise is bogus. They give you 3 at a time and stop coming to your table to let you ask for more. False advertising and horrible ethics. Stay away at all costs!!!!

Stopped in on a Saturday morning passing through Delaware on our way to NJ. This is a simple tavern, not a tourist trap or prettied-up instagram destination.
The beer is cold. The crabs were fresh, meaty, and amazing – thankfully, the bartender taught us how to crack em open and get all the meat. The fried grouper bites were crunchy and good.
If we’re ever in Delaware again, we’ll go back.
