Came in at opening on a Monday. Quiet, good service and good food! The passion old fashioned was a little bitter for my taste. The Laksa Lemak and Mushroom Pan Mee were really good and big! Two people with a medium appetite could split one main and 1-2 sides or appetizers. I’m happy that the vegetarian dishes were yummy.

We tried Kedai Mekan over the weekend, and it was a great experience overall! I ordered the Spicy Margarita, which was really good. We also tried the Rotti with chickpea sauce, the sauce was delicious, but I was expecting a crispy rotti like the ones served at Thai or Indian restaurants, so it wasn’t quite what I expected. For the main dish, we had the Nasi Lemak, which was really good and definitely a highlight of the meal! I was also expecting them to serve draft beer, but unfortunately, they didn’t.

We stopped in on a whim after walking to the grocery store and I’m so glad we did, the food was really delicious. My husband and I shared the chicken satay, pickled veggies, and chili pan mee. All were fantastic and so was the service. The lighting is really nice in here as well, and for music they had some fun covers of pop songs playing. We also ended up with some discounts on our bill for happy hour which was nice!

This was my first time trying Malaysian food, so I’m not sure if it was the cuisine or just this restaurant, but the dishes weren’t to my taste. The curry was bland and the peanut sauce tasted like just blended peanuts. With an automatic 18% gratuity added, I expected more attentive service, but no one checked in on us during the meal even though the restaurant was fairly empty.

Man… I wanted to like this. I used to manage the building Kedai was in when Kevin and Alysson owned it and I frequented OFTEN. It was hard not to as I was working in my little closet and the delicious, pungent aromas that were unmistakably their food wafted upstairs. I also went often to their little walk up stall, which Yalla now calls home. So when I say I’ve eaten my weight in Nasi Goreng, I HAVE EATEN MY WEIGHT IN NASI GORENG! I was both bummed and excited they were closing bcs I know how hard they worked and how tiring running a smashing hit of a restaurant can be.

I moved towards the mountains during COVID and come back occasionally and today, I was so excited bcs I had extra time to stop and give the place a try, in its new location, under the new ownership.

*le sigh* When I walked in and wasn’t punched in the face w the same scent that came out of Kevin’s kitchen, I should’ve known. The Nasi Goreng is not the Malaysian style Nasi I came to love deeply. At best, it’s a Chinese style fried rice, an ok and EXPENSIVE one but if I wanted Chinese fried rice, I’d go to a Chinese restaurant. The sambal they serve it with is a Thai style sweet sambal, not the throat punching Malaysian sambal Id mix into the already exceptionally flavorful Nasi Goreng ala Kevin. I love that for my Crab Rangoon I get at a Thai place but not at Kedai. They say there are anchovies in it but they taste more like minows, which is whatever. I’m pretty bummed. I did get my wife the roti and I haven’t tried it yet but I wont get my hopes up when she comes home and I get to try a bite.

So the place is… fine. It used to be exceptional and deserved people lining up 30-45min prior to opening. It’s not that anymore. If you haven’t been since the new ownership resurrected it, know they resurrected it in name, with the benefit of having years of stellar reviews when Kevin and Alysson ran it, but it is NOT that anymore. The Paseo resurrection was better executed than this, tho I still prefer Un Bien but… that’s for a diff review.

I can’t choose my fav. Every dish was amazing. All packed with flavor and made to perfection ( except some dried shrimp in Laksa). The spicy condiments is really good too. Chili Pan Mee is smth new. I have never had anything like it, if you like spicy noodles, you will like it. Service is great too. The servers are very knowledgeable and talked my husband out of trying some crazy drinks lol. Nice chill date night spot on a Friday night.

Oh so Yummy!

Stumbled upon this killer Malaysian restaurant while visiting from out of town, and now I’m so sad I live so far away! This was one of the most memorable food experiences I’ve had in a long while.

The space is large with a bar up top and more table set on a lower level. We walked past the kitchen on the way to our seats and we knew then we were about to taste something new.

We over order but didn’t regret trying the roti with a chickpea curry, village style fried rice, chicken wings, and Laska Lemak curry noodles with prawns for two people. It was a LOT of food, and very fair prices so a great value for sure.

The curry noodles and chicken wings were my best bites. With the chicken being perfectly crispy on the outside but so moist and tender on the inside. Be careful not to add too much chili to your curry as it got hot fast we only needed a tiny pinch to get the flavor with some heat.

Service was very good but not overly attentive, and there were so kind to explain the difference in flavors.

We skipped out of drinks here but they had a fun selection.

Will definitely be making my way back here next time I’m in town.

Food was fantastic, particular mention for Roti Babi. Jyanna, our server was friendly and helpful with recommendations. Atmosphere was cheery with just the right balance of whimsical kitsch and warm cozy wood and tile. Would definitely dine here again.

The food here was incredibly delicious and flavorful. If you’re looking for a place to eat Ramen Danbo without having to wait in a long line, this is the place to go. It’s only a short walk from Ramen Danbo. The portion size was generous enough for two people.
