We believe that the experience of eating hand rolls is truly something special and worthy of its own restaurant, so we created KazuNori — The Original Hand Roll Bar.® At KazuNori, our commitment to quality is unwavering, just as it is at SUGARFISH. We serve only the freshest fish, along with specially harvested seaweed, housemade sauces, and our signature warm rice. KazuNori is the first restaurant of its kind, and we think that eating one of our just-made hand rolls, with its crispy nori, warm rice, and delectable ingredients, will redefine what you think about sushi.

The setup is all bar seating and it’s pretty limited, so definitely expect a bit of a hangout before you get a stool. Once you’re in, the service is great and the rolls come out fast and super fresh.
I went with the 6-roll set which included the lobster roll, so good! But honestly, the scallop roll was the sleeper hit for me; the flavor was spot on. I love that you can do the sets or just go à la carte if you have specific favorites.
Parking in this area can be a nightmare, but there’s a big garage nearby that makes it super easy.
Great food, fresh fish, and that signature crispy seaweed. I’ll definitely be back (once I have time to stand in line again)!
That said, we did have a bit of an issue afterward — we ended up burping for most of the afternoon after the meal, which was a little uncomfortable and unexpected.
We each ordered the 4 hand roll set. I added an extra yellowtail and substituted the crab for salmon, which was handled easily. The rice was seasoned perfectly, the fish was fresh, and the seaweed continues to be one of the best you can get for hand rolls.
The staff was friendly, and the hand rolls were presented right when you expected them, which kept the pacing of the meal spot on. Service was quick and efficient without feeling rushed. The ambiance is consistent and inviting, exactly what you expect from KazuNori.
My only minor wishes would be fresh wasabi as an option and seats that are a bit more form fitting, especially if you plan to sit through a full set. Neither is a deal breaker, but both would elevate the experience even more.
KazuNori remains one of the most reliable spots for high quality hand rolls, and this new Pasadena location is a great addition. I will definitely be back.
One surprising note is that I actually do not recommend the toro here, which is weird because I usually love toro as sashimi. The standouts for me were the salmon and the scallop, both of which were excellent. Service was great, and it is very easy to get in and out. No tipping is allowed since gratuity is included, which I appreciate.
I typically did the 6 rolls and added 2-3 rolls on top but most people seemed to be good with just 5-6 rolls all in.
Service / eating is pretty quick (expect to have your meal done in 25 to 45 min from sitting to leaving), which is to be expected given the big demand.
Reasonable on substitutions – some rolls couldn’t be changed but all the ones I had issues with (can’t eat shellfish) they were happy to sub out.
For those worried about lines – it seems if you get there before 11:30 all the days I went you’d get seated, but depending on the weather/day by 11:35 to 11:40-ish all seats are full and then you have to wait for it to start emptying which is usually around 12 when first new seats open up (and it prob doesn’t matter much if you arrive 11:40 or 12 — since most seats from round 1 will open up very quickly one after the other as the first round wraps up)
