We believe that the experience of eating hand rolls is truly something special and worthy of its own restaurant, so we created KazuNori — The Original Hand Roll Bar.® At KazuNori, our commitment to quality is unwavering, just as it is at SUGARFISH. We serve only the freshest fish, along with specially harvested seaweed, housemade sauces, and our signature warm rice. KazuNori is the first restaurant of its kind, and we think that eating one of our just-made hand rolls, with its crispy nori, warm rice, and delectable ingredients, will redefine what you think about sushi.

I knew I wanted 2 try this restaurant when I attempted 2 visit & realized I needed 2 pre-plan bcuz the line is consistently out the door! The line seems 2 move at a steady pace… so patrons don’t spend 2 much time lingering in seats –
The neighborhood folk definitely know about this gem!

Menu is small and simple which makes 4 a successful operation! Top 1/3 of menu a bit confusing but we figured it out… it represents number of hand rolls ordered and corresponding price –
So 3rolls=$16 / 4rolls=$20 / 5rolls=$25 / 6rolls=$29
Food is fresh and delish! I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the rice! It has lemon juice and provides such a beautiful dance across the tongue palette!
If you’re n2 beer, try the non-alcoholic Soporro! The flavor profile is extraordinarily similar 2 its counterpart!

Rolls are prepared behind the seating counter and served one at a time… in unspecified order –

Seating is counter ONLY so not a location for children or those needing special accommodations –
Takeout seems 2 be popular –
Parking is paid in a lot serving several restaurants… lot has limited spaces –

I have been to other KazuNori locations, but this was my first time at the MDR one and being that I live walking distance from this location I was really excited to try this new spot. The location is hard to beat, it’s right by the water and the anchorage where all the boats are docked. The shopping center is in between the water and Admiralty Way which is the main street in MDR. The first two hours are free parking in the shopping center it is located in, but this location does get quite busy and given that they don’t take reservations the line can get quite long if you go after 6PM.

Inside is basically one giant wraparound bar. You sit at the counter and order one of the hand roll meals or you can do à la carte Nigiri. I will say that I am a huge fan of Sugarfish and would prefer that over KazuNori any day and given that Sugarfish is literally right across the street, I can’t really see why I would ever choose KazuNori over Sugarfish, which is their the flagship restaurant, but it’s still nice to have this option. I just wish KauNori would have more fish options like sweet shrimp and others that Sugarfish offers. It’s part of the same ownership though so some of the flavors will be very similar. I still think the Sugarfish restaurant group has the best albacore I’ve ever had.

For my dinner I decided to order the 6 Hand Roll meal and also added an Albacore Roll. I would say that the yellowtail and the crab were by far my favorites and the lobster was a close third. The albacore was also fantastic but still I feel that yellowtail is their best fish and it was also my favorite again this evening. Pricing is very fair and service is very quick so it’s a really great quick and casual option. Only if the line to enter is not long.

This location is great. You get a view next to the water and the service and food were phenom.

Get there early. We were there at 12 on a Sunday and the line wasn’t too bad. We waited 20 minutes for 2 people. It spacious enough to roll in a stroller but they don’t have high chairs. So don’t expect one. I fed my son in his stroller a little rice and fish and he was fine. He, thankfully, did not scream and go crazy to the rest of the restaurant.

We had a 5 set and added another handroll. They were all good. Toro, yellowtail, crab, scallop, lobster, shrimp and salmon. The salmon sashimi was really good too. Everything tasted very solid.

The price wasn’t bad. They don’t take tip so it’s just included 16% on you receipt.

I’d return!

First time here!
We came around 2 PM and waited about 40 minutes because it was so popular.
The hand rolls were super fresh and delicious, and the specials that day — monkfish liver and uni — were incredible.
Would love to come back and would definitely recommend it to friends.

I love hand roll. The first time I came, there was a long queue. I came again on Valentine’s night and I was willing to wait in line so my sister could try it with me for the first time.

Meh. It was tasty, but I think the service could have been way faster. I didn’t really enjoy how long it took between each roll. It’s more satisfying to have it up front or at a faster pace in my opinion. Also no appetizers or anything? Seems like they could at least have some edamame or something. It was all okay. Better for lunch than dinner. Afterwards I went and got a burger at Hiho. LOL!

Ding experience was enjoyable. While the wait time was longer than I expected, I appreciated being able to watch the staff prepare the hand rolls right in front of me, which added to the overall freshness and appeal of the food. The prices seemed reasonable for the quality offered, and I found their sake to be quite enjoyable as well.

Such a great spot for hand rolls. Eat at the bar only and no reservations. It’s a quick spot though so if you have to wait it won’t be too long. Everything is fresh and reasonably priced. It’s all bar seating so great for on your own or with a small group.

One star not because this restaurant deserves it but because reviews are inflated. For about $33 for 6 rolls course customers should receive bigger portions with more items if possible. I appreciate the hand roll bar but shop decor and atmosphere is too basic to be considered ‘exotic’ and packed(just like other reviews mention) for management to be entitled to this price point. Located at an affluent area with constant stream of customers so there’s not much excuse about not being more generous with spending on customer experience or food qualities.

I worked in food service for a while and I can also just tell crew members are not having a great time and team synergy is off – most likely a rigid or unfair management and not the crews fault.
